(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

*full disclosure: that’s not actually me

1. You’re not describing bold, you’re describing pie in the sky. The old logo is never coming back. Even if you think the criticism about it is incorrect, then the issue is too many people are misinformed about it to accept it again. It’s dead.

2. The team didn’t tease the spear thing, it was basically leaked. We still don’t know what that promo shoot will prove to be about.
I do think it’s different, but your points are well taken. Boone’s as well.

It wouldn't shock me if the black uniforms disappear, either this year or next.

I think the fact that they're wearing them three times this year implies we will see the black only once this year, but possibly not at all.
My bet is we will see them ( only ) once.

If these are made full time next year, and they just get rid of the all-blacks, that would open up a whole new slot for a new alternate or throwback next year.

Well no, of course I don’t expect it to become part of the current brand, but I thought we were talking about “throwbacks” here. I don’t doubt what you say is likely true, but I do wonder why they put out the tease with the spear?

Edit: answered by Conn thanks!

If it was acceptable for a limited alternative throwback, it would be acceptable all the time. The logo may stop being blurred on old footage and such when it’s edited into videos but it’s not gonna see the field again, otherwise they could just wind it back permanently to that logo. People are just gonna have to let it go

Here's one, fellas...

If they go back to these full time next season, they'll (more than likely) bring back the burgundy ones from the same era.

Would you prefer white pants with those, or Yellow? I love the yellow, but the striping didn't match, and they didn't wear the yellow during those Super Bowl years...

Yellow (“gold”) pants…that color combo feels like the 70s to me. Just need to get a little plastic helmet and I’m 9 years old again lol…

I have to say real quick that what has me most stoked honestly is the helmet. Basically, it’s the Redskins helmet with the W that I like.

I cannot WAIT to purchase one.

TAKE MY MONEY

Yep…if you’re looking at the helmet from the front you’d swear the Redskins logo was on the side.

Probably no coincidence that they deemphasized the W in all the pics/videos

They did because in this moment it’s not about the W, it’s about paying tribute to our greatest teams. The W works fine with the uniform though in my opinion. In time, it will become iconic in its own right.

I am not sure how I feel about these. I get a lot of people are happy about them and they aesthetically look great. But when I saw Daniels in that 5 jersey, I initially thought McNabb. It dawned on my why they didn't resonate with me as much as they used to:

Gibbs Super Bowl era was magical--I remember all three titles. I remember how good and well coached that team was year-in and year-out; how proud I was to be a Redskins fan. It ran for 10 incredible years. However, Snyder's horrific run lasted two-and-a-half times that. I associate those uniforms with as much that era as the Super Bowl titles, maybe more so.

I am sure when I see them on the screen I will get excited--and I will come around on them. But it honestly fell a little flat this morning. I am well aware no one will agree.

I have never been a fan of trying to ‘Redskinize’ the Commanders brand. Once they changed the team identity, it just feels inauthentic and like pandering to me, but I know I am in the extreme minority so that’s the only comment I’ll make about it.

My Brother in Redskins, I understand why you would feel that way, but look at this putrid pic with the WOSH and Mrs. WOSH and look at todays pic.

Great point Chuck.

I understand where you are coming from, in a branding sense everything continues to be all over the place, and it's not cohesive. But more pragmatically, I think it's worth it to smush everything together and own it, warts and all. This move is a plus for the fanbase's psyche, even if it doesn't make a lot of sense outside of historical context. I am 100% for whatever we can get away with doing that helps at all in re-engaging dormant fans, or fans with dormant feelings.

And maybe above it all, it just looks good. There's value in looking good for looking good's sake :)
