(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

NFL fans are so hung up on tradition. MLS teams have a different (sometimes multiple different) jerseys/kits every season. Guess what - the fans love it and buy them in droves. I have at least 5 Charlotte FC jerseys in my closet. I still know which team it is I’m rooting for. I suspect the NFL may move in that direction? It’s exciting to see what new looks they come up with, and the revenue potential for the NFL would be huge.

It’s a sports team. They should have fun with it, just my opinion.

MLB already is--the Nationals have 5 different jerseys: standard white home/road greys, then an alternate red, alternate blue, and the city connects.

BOO FOR THE BLACK JERSEYS! It's not our history bros
The Commanders aren't part of our history either, but its who we are . . . if they want black (it sells), make it better like the ASU blacks from a couple of years ago . . . they were awesome. see:

So many people chasing that feeling they felt when they were 11 years old watching the Gibbs teams dominate on TV, not realizing that you can never replicate that dopamine hit again. Have fun with it is right. We can enjoy the hell out of this team but it’s up to new generations to form those unreachable emotional highs now. And they’ll hit our age and still love what they love, but also have to come to terms with the fact that it’s never going to be the same as the way they remember it. That’s the nature of nostalgia, even in sports fandom.

Let's go get a Super Bowl. It's been long enough we need to end the drought

If uniforms keep changing they stop being uniforms.

That’s not true. You can have many iterations with common elements. As I said, MLS has proven it doesn’t turn off its fanbase’s, it excites and energizes them.

The NFL is monolithic and slow to change. But I bet that seeing MLS revenues driven by a more creative and potentially lucrative approach the NFL will move in that direction.

What I meant was that uniform literally means one form, but I’m being pedantic.

I’m not a fan of alternates, but I know these things evolve, and I actually like when they do throwbacks, so the point about multiple iterations is certainly fair.

To support Boone's point, Premier League teams have a new jersey every year. Different iterations with a common theme. Many fans buy the new one each season, it's a great source of revenue.

That is interesting about the Premier league, and you guys are probably right that the NFL is heading down that road. It being a good source of revenue for them does nothing for me as a fan though. But I’m not the target, I very rarely buy a jersey. And there are plenty of people who buy lots of them, so I get it. For me, I much prefer to turn on the game and easily recognize the teams that are playing by their uniform. In baseball right now, it’s not uncommon to see two teams basically wearing each other’s traditional colors and it drives me crazy. I don’t mind multiple iterations when teams stay within their own colors, but when they stray from that it’s just too much.

I dunno, I’ve never turned on a game and not known who was playing because of the uniforms

Me neither as far as NFL games, at least not yet. But I watch multiple baseball games on split screens with no sound, or at bars with no sound, and it’s been confusing at times. No it doesn’t take that long to figure it out. Not saying it’s a big deal, just an annoyance.

Basketball is one that really gets me. Half the time I don't know who's on.

' For the last 15 years i have watched this fanbase age, myself obviously included. Wondering how the hell there was going to be an appeal to the next generation because it was getting harder and harder to see younger fans. In 18 months the vibe around the team with a young fanbase has appeared to change direction. Obviously an NFC Championship appearance along with Jayden being a very public figure helps that, but a large segment of the KIDS i see wearing Commanders jersey, have opted for the black alternate. It’s what appeals to younger viewers. There are some legacy teams that are steadfast in their tradition, but teams like the Packers and Steelers also haven’t been forced to change their name. They have also have had much more sustained success in comparison to us.

It’s the way of any forward thinking business. What’s going to be the demand of the consumer next? Clearly the team see’s what we all do, that the team has a fan base that’s ready to be supportive. A lot of which has already started coming back. If they thought that the current Uniforms were the reason ‘why’ they wouldn’t be changing them yet again (according to reports). And if the Black jersey’s aren’t a positive move, unlike the previous ownership who’s ego would’ve led to him continuing to roll them out DESPITE the fan reaction, then they won’t continue it. If it’s continuing to be a part of the team year after year, it’s likely because it makes sense to keep it.

No doubt. Whether you like their taste in jerseys or not, we really really need young fans to latch onto this team going forward. But I’m still not sure if it’s that they think the black jerseys are cool, or it’s just the best option we have. Probably both. I suspect they could sell literally anything right now as long as it has number 5 Daniels on it!

Might not be the right spot to ask, but are any of the jerseys decent quality? My wife just bought me the standard priced jersey but was upset it's simply iron on decals instead of stitching. The sleeves also aren't cut right, they restrict movement.

If we paid more for the next tier up in Jersey cost, is the quality actually different? I'm looking online and various spots generally say no just stick with older jerseys.

There are no older Jayden Daniels jerseys though, so I'm asking anecdotally here. Should we return and go for the higher tier, or is there some basic care/laundry tips to help, or what?
