(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

Because other billionaires have had the bare-minimum savvy to not allow their brand to be tarnished to the point of losing traction and most importantly, money. Snyder is the very rare exception, he lucked and scummed his way into enough money to purchase the golden goose, and then spent 20 years throttling it. It’s really that simple. Against all odds, he made the brand vulnerable.

What’s really disgusting is how much Snyder profited from running this franchise and brand into the ground. When he bought the Redskins they had a good brand, a proud fanbase, routine sellouts of a new 90,000 seat stadium, and a season ticket waiting list. When he sold the Commanders they had an unpopular brand, a shrinking and bitter fanbase, the worst attendance in the league in a dilapidated stadium with fewer and fewer seats, and home games that felt like away games due to the number of opposing fans. He truly destroyed the team, and for that he made a more than $5 billion profit. It makes me sick.

Anybody remember this place?

So, I suggest this variation on the name:
The Commander Salamanders!

Correct

Because it’s going to take time for people who refuse to accept the name is changed to accept that it’s not going to change again. The conversation on the name is null and void at this point. As David Lee Roth once said,… “it’s all over but the shouting”

"There's a little Van Halen in all of us, and we're just trying to bring it out. It's like something bursts inside of you, something that makes you not care what people around you are thinking. It makes you invincible, like if a car hit you, nothing would happen to you. That experience is about the audience, not us. All we do is provide the soundtrack."
- DLR

PS - I heard there is a little Sammy Hagar in some people...not that there is anything wrong with that! 🤣🤣🤣

I tried boss...

At this point it’s still difficult to have a conversation about the Commanders brand without discussing the name because the wounds are still too fresh for many of the fans. I get it. Like Boone said, time is the only thing that is going to make this right no matter what they do with the current brand.

I’m out of ideas other than the ones I posted earlier on in the thread. Now we just have to see what they do. Again…it’s going to take time.

Yep. The thing is the brand and the name are kind of one and the same, or at least the name is by far the most prominent aspect of it. Other than that we’re really just talking about minor uniform tweaks and alternate jerseys (a.k.a. marketing gimmicks). And there’s only so much to say about those things.

I hear people talking about “going back to burgundy and gold”. I don’t even know what that is though. It seems like we’ve had at least a half dozen if not more different shades of these colors over the years. Take your pick, I guess, and everyone is going to have a slightly different opinion. Right now our colors seam to be maroon black and yellow making Jim Zorn look prophetic.

Some people may prefer different striping, a different facemask color, etc. but that’s just a matter of each individuals personal taste, and so there really isn’t much of a discussion to have around it.

And I suppose some would say these same things of the name discussion, but like you said, the name issue is still emotionally charged for people and therefore is going to generate a lot of discussion. I don’t know how the thread got hijacked to that, and I apologize that I probably played a role in it, but let’s face it it’s been the most discussed topic on here since it came up. Again.

I can only speak for myself, but for me the name is a big fat pig (making Tuddy an appropriate mascot!). Talk of different branding ideas just seems like putting lipstick on it. And that’s fine, it is what it is. All we have left at this point is talking about the lipstick so we might as well. Wish I had anything interesting to add.

I think the biggest remaining branding question is the logo. Personally, in the absence of a compelling or iconic name, I think it would be a mistake to change the logo. The only thing Redskins fans can agree on now is that this is Washington’s team. The ‘W’ is simple, clean, and the last thing we need is more turmoil or controversy surrounding a new logo. You want to keep the name? Keep the damned logo (which was always the least objectionable aspect or the new Rivera/Wright ‘brand’ to begin with).

Conn with the immutable facts right there.

The WOS (worst owner in sports) was probably the WB (Worst Businessman) prior to NFL ownership, but had a horseshoe of luck wedged in his behind to get enough money to buy the golden goose when said goose was much cheaper.

I am of the same mindset. The logo works. Redskins, Team, or Commanders they are Washington. I personally prefer it over anything else I have seen. We aren't getting the most beautiful logo in the history of sports back, so a simple, clean, and frankly generic logo, is about the only thing I can stomach.

I agree the numbers on the helmet are cool. I like the numbers on the back of the helmet, and even though I don’t care for the black alternates, it is nice they incorporated the numbers on the helmet in them.

Let’s dial back the snark. Given the name is a done deal (and they will do what they want on the brand irrespective of ANY fans opinions), it’s a waste of energy and certainly not worthy of going at each other over.
