New Players Make Fools Of Talking Heads

Not to mention, we've got a brutal schedule this year. A lot of tough defenses on the horizon...

Come on folks. Game 1 last year was Rex Grossman. You could extrapolate what Grossman was going to do over 16 games because he's 31 years old with 9 years in the NFL.

That's a far cry from a rookie with better skills, better athleticism and seemingly a better work ethic.

Bulldog,

Again, not that I want to take away from what we did Sunday because I loved it, but "THIS year it's different" is our team's battle-cry. Seriously.

Not saying it's not, but I need more than one game before I'm convinced it really IS different this time.

I'm kind of with Henry on this based on the fact that one game-either good or bad-is to small a sample size to draw any really useful conclusions from. The Packers and Saints were both basically embarrassed in their games Sunday-the Saints more so because the Redskins didn't have the expectations of play level the 49ers did-but it still would be foolish, I think, to count either one out as a potential playoff contender at this point based on one result.

The Redskins haven't played a top notch defense yet-that does not mean we can't be competitive or even win against such a defense it just means that saying "Yes we can" or "No we can't" is, in my estimation, premature at this point-we just don't know. It will take several, perhaps 4 or 5 games, to accurately gauge an expected level of performance for this team.

I'll have more to say after the Minnesota, New York, Pittsburgh stretch next month.

It really wasn't just 'one game.'

NO had a chip on their shoulder. That was a sold-out crowd in one of the loudest venues in the NFL. Brees is a future HOF qb. Their defensive line is one of the best stopping the run. Oh, and did I mention we were the dog at 9.5 points?

Our rookie qb and rookie rb had NO turnovers. None.

This was a well prepared football team that looked like a veteran group.

I'm thinking playoffs...I don't see the wheels coming off unless we have a bunch of injuries.

We beat the Superbowl Champion Giants, a team that had absolutely OWNED us for a decade, by two touchdowns last year on opening day. Being well prepared on opening day has never been an issue for us.

To further add to Henry's point, Shanahan was 3-1 with both McNabb and Grossman.

I believe he is 15-4 in opening day games (or was going into the game).
