Remember after the Redskins won 5 in a row to finish the 2005 Season and made the playoffs, we had high expectations going into the 2006 Season? A lot of us thought Coach Gibbs was going to return the Burgundy and Gold to the Glory Days that he helped create. But after a preseason injury to Clinton Portis and Mark Brunell who was on the last leg of his career as a starter the team finished 5-11, JJG’s worst regular season record.

This has got to be more disappointing because it looked like we finally had our long sought after Franchise QB, the offense and stability in the coaching staff to be a contender. I was not expecting Super Bowl but was thinking that they could build off of last season. This always happens in the Post Gibbs I Era, we get our hopes up with a playoff push or a new QB or new coach or big named Free Agents only to have the regular season destroy our hopes. But this one hurts more then past hear breaks just because of the magnitude of it.

The 49ers are an example of how you build a team the right way.

You draft and sign OL and guys for the front seven and build out from there.

Kaepernick came along AFTER the 49ers had a foundation in place.

SF never traded high picks for washed up veteran quarterbacks or made the signing of secondary receivers or runners a priority.

Now they have a complete team.

Do they have the best players at each position?

No, but the have few visible weaknesses and will be getting 2 of their best receivers back from injury for the stretch run.

Fans greatly underestimated the injury to RG3.

I had no idea what the hell people were thinking. Like he was just going to be back to normal after a few games.

Maybe it was the documentary that got hopes insanely high? I'm not sure, but the optimism was crazy.

If that injury had happened in a tough media town, like New York or LA, they would have killed Shanahan up there.

Shanahan and Co have misfit personnel to scheme on defense and provided us an OL of guys that were mostly late picks, street free agents or waiver pickups.

Yes, Griffin's injury set him and the organization back but even last year the OL was clearly a liability and the defense was in the bottom ten.

We have yet to see what RGIII will turn into to, and the injury has delayed that even more. But Bulldog hit the nail on the head with building a team from the lines out. The only question left if, if fans can figure that out, why can't a "professional" football team or the team owner?

Shanahan said when he came back into coaching he was committed to the 3-4 even though it appeared Washington had few players that seemed to fit that scheme.

So we sat through Andre Carter and Lorenzo Alexander trying to cover ends and backs in the middle of the field.

We spent money to bring in Maake Kemoeatu to play NT despite having chronic knee problems.

This all failed and we ended up near the bottom of the rankings.

Just like prior to the 2006 Season people underestimated the injury in Week 16 vs the Giants and his playoff performance Mark Brunell's days as a starter being numbered and the team would take a step backwards when if/when Jason Campbell became the starter.
