If we get him that late, I have no problem whatsoever. I don't like the idea of forcing a transition to WR or something like that, that did not work at all for Marcus Vick, and really ARE is the most successful one I can think of. If we sat him for a couple of years behind Beck and Rexy, or even for one year, just to see what he has, I'd be good with that.

It would free up higher picks to cover other needs.
 
I think plan A is to trade back and take Locker, but if that doesn't work out, Shanny & co. are making contingency plans.
 
I think we have to look at the possibility that Shanny takes Locker at ten. He might be afraid that Minnesota will take Locker at twelve. I don't think it is Shannahan's personality to do the wait and see approach.

I do not think that Shanny has his sights on Locker. I think he looks for a smarter QB such as Ponder. If we can trade back into the bottom of the first and take Ponder, we may be set for a while.

A recent interview with Elway suggested that Shanny puts high value on intelligence. Couple that with Shanny Jr, and I think they have their sights set on Ponder.

I will take an intelligent QB that has satisfactory athletic ablility over the dumb one who has excellent atheletic ability. With the way the defenses move and creat commotion these days, an intelligent QB is the way to go.

I think Ponder is 1 and Dalton is 2.

trade back is probably the only option for a QB if one assumes the top[ 2-3 guys are selected before the 10th pick rolls around. highly likely 2-3 teams ahead of us are thinking QB for the 2nd round. so we either go back in the first round or up in the second round.

I still think it is a possibility that we trade down but I can't get it out of my head that we take Locker.

Well, there are 3 teams said to be hot on DE Ryan Kerrigan out of Purdue: the Rams, the Vikings, and the Texans. Not sure how the Texans could be so interested, but if they are coveting him as he appears to be making an ascent up the draft boards, it could work to our advantage if we could court the Rams and/or the Vikings.

I am not sure I am buying the love from the Texans. Even so, if the Rams and Vikings are coveting him, we could be setting right where we need to trade down.
 
1. Carolina - I still see Fairley as the #1 overall pick. He's a dominating force on the DL. Dareus' one year of starting experience will scare the Panthers away.

2. Broncos - Peterson - Champ Bailey ain't getting any younger, and a shutdown guy like Peterson will allow Bailey to gamble more, his true talent.

3. Buffalo - Bills take Cam Newton. A huge risk this high, however with a new CBA will likely come slotted salaries, so the risk isn't as high as it once was. Bills need help generating excitement AND wins. Newton may fit the bill.

4. Cincinnati - agree with Blaine Gabbert going here. Cincy needs a QB to replace Palmer, and Gabbert is the best available.

5. Arizona - AJ Green is the pick for AZ here. Ever since Boldin left, Fitzgerald has been quintuple-teamed on every snap. Another big-time playmaker will open up the offense big time, and give Larry Fitz more room to make plays (as if he needs any more).

6. Cleveland - Dick Jauron almost has a heart attack personally running this pick up to the podium, Von Miller. Cleveland's already relatively decent 3-4 instantly becomes a much better unit with Miller in the mix.

7. San Francisco - The 9ers take Julio Jones, in hopes of giving young QB Troy Smith more targets. I am personally not a fan of JJ, but with Vernon Davis & Crabtree on the field, the 9ers' offense could be quite formidable.

8. Tennessee - Marcell Dareus is the pick here, in the hopes of replacing the DL force that Haynesworth once was for the Titans.

9. Dallas - Jerrah toys with the idea of adding JJ Watt to the team, but ends up taking Prince Akumara at 9th overall. The Cowgirls' secondary has more holes than a colander, and needs the help.

10. Washington - Robert Quinn is the pick here if the Redskins stand pat - just can't see Shanahan taking a QB at ten. Yes, he really likes Locker, but 3-4 personnel is a huge need right now. I do think the Redskins will trade back, and take Locker later in the 1st.

Brings up an interesting point. Would you be willing to suffer through the worst season in Redskins' history if we were in a position to draft Luck?

Anyway, Shanahan would be fired if we are any worse than we were this year.
 
I agree. If the Skins don't win at least eight games in 2011, Shanny is gone.

There was another point Walter made I am not sure I agree with. While discussing the quick trigger Shanahan seems to have for certain players, he said that Russell Okung was a better choice at the 4 pick, but Shanny had his blinders on and his sights set on Williams.

In support of this assertion, they claimed Okung had a better year than Williams. If I recall, didn't Okung miss a substantial part of the year to injury?

Mike Shanahan and Bruce Allen take pride in crafting misperceptions, playing poker and never revealing their hand, and traditionally both do a very thorough job of concealing their draft intentions. He missed 6 games, but the quality of the opponents has to be taken into account as well. Trent Williams faced a lot better pass rushers than Okung did. Trent held his own and hopefully he will get better.

Well, I am starting to feel like we should take Ponder at the back half of the first, if we can get him. If we don't, I am all for waiting until next years draft to grab a QB.

I think Grossman is serviceable for a couple of years. I know that makes some cringe, but I do not see the point in taking a QB with our first/second if we are not certain that the guy is a franchis QB. We are not in position to gamble. We must pick properly and be sure of our picks.

I think we will have a top ten draft pick next year. Hopefully, if things play out right, we can gather picks from this years draft to go with a full complement of picks next year. Then maybe, we will have ammunition to move up next year, if need be.

I do not see too many QBs in this draft that impress me mentally. I think the player that we aquire for the QB position has to be very cereberal. A QB has to be able to step up to the line and decipher a defense within seconds. We do not need the strong arm or super athletic QB. We need the guy with an above average arm, has enough ability to move in the pocket, but can make defenses pay for their mistakes. I think Ponder can do that. I think McElroy could do it mentally, but physically he is not there and may even go undrafted. Locker, I have soured on him because he does not seem all that smart. Maybe, I am wrong. I am starting to get the same impression from Dalton.

**Note, this post is only good for the next 10 seconds....after that I am allowed to change my mind for the hundreth time.
