MLB 2013 (Primarily non-Nats/O's

Orioles bullpen = the worst bullpen. SIGH.

With a halfway decent bullpen, the Orioles would be easily leading the East, and have the best record in baseball. Sad to see this offense get wasted on a terrible 'pen. Ugh.

Francisco Liriano was THE BEST offseason signing in baseball. Utterly dominated the Cards last night in a clutch rebound game (for him AND the team.)

I respectfully suggest a legal name change to "FrancACEco."

Three up on the Cards in the division. Nine up on the D-backs in the WC. Nine wins to go to break the longest streak of losing seasons in North American major pro sports history.

The little engine that WILL.

Davey Johnson gives his own team a Bazinga on an appearance on the Junks:

“I’ve got scouts out there that you guys have been really raunchy today,” Johnson scolded the Junkies shortly into their interview.

Jason Bishop then explained that they had been discussing the news that Red Sox slugger Mike Napoli apparently is dating a porn star who goes by the name Rachel Starr.

Johnson’s reply: “Well none of my guys could, ’cause we can’t score.”

Davey Johnson on why the Nats can?t date porn stars

Pete Rose had ten 200-hit seasons interspersed over his 26-year career. Ichiro did it ten years in a row his first ten years in the majors, and has averaged over 40 more hits per season than Rose did over his MLB career. If he'd spent his entire career in the majors, he would have crushed Rose's record.

Ichiro's hit numbers are off the charts...over a 26-year MLB career his total projects to 5444 hits, just under 1200 more hits than Petey Hustle. He also batted 17 points higher over his career than Rose did.

In my opinion, Ichiro is the greatest hitter in baseball history.

Teddy Ballgame was a great hitter, no doubt. But his strength was drawing walks and making the pitcher give him what he wanted. Plus, its hard to compare guys from eras that different - some say Ichiro would have destroyed in the deadball era, and set an untouchable record. You just don't know.

I didn't amend it here, but I will now: Ichiro is *one of* the greatest hitters in baseball history. Gwynn was pretty great, but Ichiro has 400 less hits in 7 less seasons...not really comparable, IMO. Gwynn did see better pitchers though.

I'd go Teddy Ballgame as well, with Gwynn being the best of my lifetime. Ichiro is 150% in the conversation though. No question.

Speaking of conversation, here's a fun topic....

The first-place Pirates have acquired Marlon Byrd, John Buck, and now JUSTIN MORNEAU this week for two bags of baseballs.

This run is going to be absolutely EPIC.

The first-place-all-alone Pittsburgh Pirates will look to sweep the Cards out of town tomorrow afternoon. We are 10-5 against the Redbirds this season; and I'm going to go ahead and say that qualifies as "pwnt."

Any talk of the Brewers and Cubs padding our stats has to be tempered with the fact that we've dominated one of the very best teams in baseball when it's mattered.

With win #81 on September 3, 2013, the longest streak of losing seasons in American pro-sports history has come to an end!!!!!

We need go just 9-15 the rest of the way to reach the 90 wins I predicted, and was mocked for (even in my Pirates circle.)

This is a special, special team. And every loss during those 20 years was worth it for the joy I'm experiencing tonight.

RAISE THE FRIGGIN' JOLLY ROGER!!!!!!!!

The final three-game set of the season with the Cardinals begins tonight. The Bucs hold a 1 1/2 game lead in the division. I want to leave town at 4 1/2, and this team is capable of doing it.

Then it's off to Texas for another tough three-game series, before returning home for eight against the Padres and Cubs. By the end of that Cubs series, we should be at 90 wins.

This is OUR year. NL Central crown or bust! LET'S GO BUCS!!!

Pirates magic number to clinch a playoff berth: 10. Any combination of Bucs wins or Reds losses gets us there. Six games remaining between the two teams, and 17 overall.

Wins to the 90 I predicted: 6.

Total douche move. Goldberg literally pointed ME out, and tried to throw me one of his gloves at WrestleMania XX at MSG. But it curved went toward a kid (12 or 13 years old) two seats to my left. I could have made a similar move, and snatched it. Needless to say, the kid left with the glove.

In other news, Pedro Alvarez, Russell Martin, and Garrett Jones hit back-to-back-to-back solo home runs in the 4th...ALL with two outs!! I'll have to see what "mister" Elias has to say, but I wonder if that's ever happened in team history. Three consecutive jacks, all with two gone. Insane.

Tonight, I'm more disappointed in the outcome of a baseball game than I've been since 1992. And that's OK. To be seriously disappointed by a loss on September 20th, you have to be playing meaningful games on September 20th. But this sucks...and hard.

We blew a 2-run lead in the 9th, and lost on a solo jack in the 10th by Joey Votto. That's bad enough in itself. But the Reds hit McCutchen high and hard again. Flashback to last year...

McCutchen gets drilled by Aroldis Chapman with a 100 MPH fastball that would have hit him in the face if not for his quick reaction. As it was, it hit him high on the shoulder. The umpire immediately warns both benches, taking away the Bucs opportunity to retaliate.

The Reds come out the next day, and hit our leadoff man, prompting ANOTHER warning to both benches. Again, taking away our opportunity to respond.

Tonight, the same thing happened. The MVP gets hit in the shoulder blade, and immediately both benches are warned. Melancon was warming up already. I'd have left Liriano in to start the 9th, and hammered the **** out of their leadoff man up high. Liriano gets tossed, and you bring in your closer. Problem solved.

Clint Hurdle needs to stop letting the Reds intimidate us. They throw at our star player's head at 100 MPH, because they know we have too much class to do the same. **** that. If A.J. Burnett retires the first two batters tomorrow, I want one in Votto's earhole. I bet that **** would stop then.

F the Reds. LET'S GO BUCS!!!

Thanks to the Washington Nationals getting swept in a doubleheader by the Marlins yesterday, a Pirates win or Nats loss tonight puts the Bucs in the playoffs.

FML...as if the Orioles season could get any worse, Manny Machado steps on first base and his knee explodes. Brightest young prospect in the game, and best defensive 3rd baseman in baseball, and now his career might be in jeopardy. If it wasn't for bad luck, the Orioles would have no luck at all. :(
