In the event that Drake Maye is selected by Washington as it’s future QB in the upcoming draft…this is your dedicated home for any and all discussion.

Did you know that Luke and Leia were not originally twins, but that there was a third? The Skywalker triplets.

I think Maye is going to take a bit of work that first year but for some reason I am sensing 3-4 years from now he is going to be a star while Daniels will be more like Tua, a good player that has hit some injuries and overall is a solid starter but not a guy that elevates a team.

Of course I am the only one to suggest moving down and taking Penix late first while grabbing perhaps TWO top prospects at OT and WR first.

I'm even lower on Daniels. I see Maye as a more aggressive passer with a much stronger arm and probably has a higher ceiling than Herbert because of the mindset. He's less talented than Elway but similar will to win. His NC receivers weren't any good. Likely throws some Ints but could have a great career in the right situation. He can run like Josh Allen. Favreish? Elway or Allen? Definitely wins in the traits department.

With Daniels the best comp I can come up with is Lamar but he's closer in reality to Fields or Mariota. Except he looks more like a skinny PG than QB. Doesn't help that he is sacked or runs the ball over 50% of the time when pressured. That's going to be a lot of cartoonish hits. Just seems like a RG3 ending to me. Apparently he had a grand total of 16 actual passes last year when under pressure. On the others he was sacked, ran or threw it away. That was his by far his best season. None of his other 4 touch either of Maye's.

I'd "settle" for McCarthy over Daniels I think unless he just blows them away with the intangibles. Just seems unlikely that was the case. McCarthys only edge was supposed to be the intangibles.

I woke up this morning what we would all think of Maye had he chosen the portal like Daniels? Clearly, NC knows how to recruit QBs, but both Howell and Maye left with the reputation of being raw and having played alongside insufficient protection and talent. If Maye had jumped to a better school would be still be talking about his mechanics? If he had landed in an Ohio State for example or preeminent college with a powerhouse line and first round receivers what would be the narrative around him.

I can't fault him for staying. After all, he's going to be a top five draft pick and there's something to be said about sticking out your commitment. Still, in the land of "What ifs" I wonder what if?

I think where he played is far less important than for how long he has played. UNC, although not a football powerhouse, does run a pro style offense. Had Maye been at a place like Ohio State I’m not sure he’s even developed his abilities to where they are right now. His biggest issue is simply that he is still learning to play the position and some of his mechanics are sloppy. With more time I think he takes another step. He just needs more experience.

Maye had originally committed to play at Alabama, recruited by Nick Saban, before flipping to North Carolina. Ultimately a desire to stay home, play for Mack Brown at his family’s alma mater, and Bryce Young’s decision to flip his commitment from USC to Alabama led him to change his mind.

Thanks. Didn’t know that background

The Maye family roots run deep at UNC. His dad played QB in the 80s and his brothers both played basketball at UNC. His brother Luke was somewhat of a cult hero at UNC. He was also part of a national championship while he was there. Drake going to UNC and sticking with his family school when he had other offers is definitely a feather in his cap.

"To Terry McLaurin throw passes you will....."

Very interesting prospect that will take a little bit of work but he's not some major project like Twitterverse would have you believe.

Wouldn't mind him at #2 at all.

Pressure to sack ratio and durability issues continue to concern me about Daniels.

I think overall Maye gets a more realistic review from evaluators. He has some things to work on, even his most enthusiastic supporters agree.

Meanwhile I see a lot of over the top superlatives for Daniels from some reviewers that seem to indicate he has no flaws and is ready to take the NFL by storm.

When I read some these I have to keep remembering Caleb Williams is still up there at #1 with some definite separation from the others by grade.

There's no more time to waffle. If it's me making the final call at #2, Drake Maye is my future QB.

Jayden Daniels is the best likely available choice today. But we aren't drafting for today, and I think Maye has an enormous ceiling.

Maye is already a damned good QB. He can make every throw - with power and velocity. He can make those throws off schedule and under duress. The things he doesn't do at an elite level - technique, footwork, ball placement, throwing with greater anticipation, are all things he can improve.

He's got the frame to play and last at the NFL level. And when it comes to desire to win, to improve, and work ethic - I think he's a dawg.

And I think he is absolutely the best fit for an Adam Peters/Dan Quinn leadership group.

The national media has just about brow beat us into believing the selection HAS to be Daniels, but just like with Ben Johnson sometimes the road home is not a straight one.

In regards to patience in general I think GMs have that trait more readily than coaches.

Coaches want to get off the ground running and win games from the next opener.

GM's meanwhile can look out a year plus and say 'well, this roster can get us to X, but with another draft of the right players we should be where we need to be as a core to win', etc.

Ultimately, that's what happened with Beathard vs. Gibbs.

As the team started to win Gibbs wanted to acquire more veteran players (Marshall, Byner, etc.) and give up draft picks and/or younger players and Beathard was against that and ended up fighting a losing battle with a 2 time SB coach.
