I live in Orlando, Florida so I don't get to hear the local broadcasters.

I just had dinner with a diehard fan, that swears he heard the following from either Cooley or some other local DC broadcaster.

Supposedly, Jay and Scot called Pierre and asked him to come in for a tryout. Pierre's response was something like "I really don't do tryouts. I'm not the best guy in practice, but I play my best on the field" and he declined to fly to Washington.

Jay and Scot offered him a contract on the spot over the telephone, and he came right in.

Has anyone else heard this? It's a pretty cool story if true.

Probably not a big help but if you go to ESPN980 they have a pretty good sized vault of Redskin interviews, shows, podcasts and such. I don't know how much you can listen to live from the station on the computer but I get it with GamePass for the games. I'm pretty sure you should be able to at least get the pregame/game broadcast via the internet.

I kill the TV audio and listen to the radio broadcast crew (Brian Mitchell, Doc Walker, Sonny Jurgensen and Larry Micheal) here in Seattle. It beats listening to the national broadcast crews who mostly should not even be calling Little League games... mostly...

McCloughan was smart while Jim Tomsula was stupid.

McCloughan brought Pierre Thomas in to play third downs and be a specialist in the passing game, which he may still be one of the best in the league at doing.

Meanwhile, the 49ers signed Thomas at midseason and tried to fit him into the backfield running the plays that Frank Gore used to execute for the team.

Big mistake. Different players, different styles of play.

This is one reason the 49ers were a disaster this year.

They gave up on Michael Crabtree and Oakland got a steal for a $1M 1 year deal.

I really wanted the Redskins to sign Crabtree to use his height in the red zone.

But he did have some work ethic issues earlier in his career so McCloughan was probably wary.

McL is a good evaluator. Character is high on the list and it isn't always about the best individual talent. He sees the whole as greater than the sum of it's parts and works to build a team. Just look at the turn around in the locker room. Even the players are commenting on how much it's changed.

I listen to ESPN980 during a game (and when not on TV), and it is far better than GameCentre, and less non-football banter than the BGO chatroom. I am able to listen from start to finish (or if I decide to no longer listen) and I live in Australia, so there should be no reason why anyone in Florida can't get connected.
