Knee Surgery For Hatcher

yee haw!!

gotta love that happening RIGHT before training camp. Why do players wait so long?

Let's just hope it's a routine scope to clean it up. But you're right Mike, why do they wait.

cooley was just talking about how this happens to guys... they hurt themselves in the off season and wait until the first week of the first OTA to say something is wrong so their covered on injury clauses.

he went over the scenarios when it goes on, and this was pretty much it to a T.

at least it's only 4-6 weeks. should be able to participate in actual camp.

Once again, Dan Snyder is played for a big payday by a player at the end of his career.

And, from a rival team, no less.

It smells of Haynesworth.

Sounds to me like this is just a convenient opportunity to take a potshot at Dan Snyder for you. I'm no Snyder Dan, but come on. Players get hurt all the time. It sounds like his knee needs some minimal clean out...until we hear differently that's what it sounds like. Drawing comparisons to Haynesworth is ridiculous. And bashing Snyder as somehow being 'responsible' (whatever that even means) is equally ridiculous.

Yeah, until something develops, I'm going to table this as non-story. But I won't deny it has potential for disappointment.

The good news is it's his left knee. He tore his right ACL in college and I would be way more worried at what they may have found if it was the right knee they were looking at.

Its a knee scope? Not a big deal then.

Don't get me wrong. I'd rather he not need surgury at all, but knee scopes happen all the time. Way too early to panic about this.

And compared to Haynesworth? He could go on IR tomorrow and it still wouldn't be as bad as the Hayensworth signing. Not even close.

Not gonna get all worked up about this... but isn't this the type of stuff thats found in a routine physical before signing a contract? Doesn't seem like he should have been signed if he needed knee surgery, so maybe its just something that happened in OTAs and NOT the offseason?

Probably more likely the Barrow signing under Gibbs from the giants don't think he ever played a down

yeah, no kiddin', the odor of Haynesworth comparison is way off.

I also don't think Snyder had much to do with this signing other than the check signature, if folks are gonna' whine about this stuff then at least pour it on Allen.

Well, there's this: Picking the winners and losers of minicamp season - NFL.com under the Losers category.

Completely unbiased view from Dan Hanzus. Provided 'unbiased' is defined as never having anything good to say about the Redskins.

The Redskins spent good money to swipe Jason Hatcher away from the rival Cowboys in free agency. Early returns aren't good. We learned this week that Hatcher's ailing knee required arthroscopic surgery. While the four-to-six week recovery timetable should put Hatcher back on the field in time for training camp, it's an inauspicious start that makes you wonder if the Redskins were wise to invest in an inconsistent big man on the wrong side of 30.

I don't know about inconsistent. Maybe played better overall each year over the last three.

A lot of noise over the $27.5M/4 year contract. Well, like most contracts handed out to older players this is not as bad as the media would like you to believe. $9M signing bonus ($2.25M @ yr over 4 yr's cap hit). This years salary guaranteed - $1.5M. The balance of $17M is all salary and comes off the books if he does. $14M of that is split over the last two years. So in reality - a two year $13.5M deal. That's probably all the Redskins really are expecting from him is two years but if he's still playing at a high level then, keep/renegotiate the contract in 2016.

"We don't feel like it's a long-term thing," Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. "Any time you have a surgery there's a little bit of a concern. But I think from what I'm told, the severity of it is not that great…There was no major damage in there whatsoever." link: Redskins DE Jason Hatcher to miss 4-6 weeks after knee surgery - CBSSports.com June 19, 2014

If this is the absolute worst news so far this year, we've been through worse.

Translation: While this is a minor injury that will likely have zero impact on Hatcher's career, I couldn't resist concocting a little hysterical hyperbole, because I lack the intelligence or creativity to find something worthwhile to write about!

Frankly, my biggest medical concern for the defense heading into the season is how Jim Hazlett's brain is coming along now that the Shanahan Syndrome blockage has been excised.

My biggest health concern about the defense is I'm still nervouse about Merriweather getting on the field, and wonder if he's still as fragile as he used to be. We've still only got one good season out of him - and that's just health-wise - doesn't include his spearing.

Excellent point, Fear. His best year was like 2009; last 16 game season 2010. I don't think they really wanted him back this year - didn't resign him till mid Mar and that was for his vet minimum. If Thomas wasn't IR'd & had showed anything in 2013 Meriweather possibly would not have been brought back at all.

I didn't like the Hatcher signing from the beginning, and I do not like it now. I hope I am wrong but I don't think he will pan out, plus he was a puke.....
