Interesting. I have to thank him because if you all remember, before he got here, we couldn't score a passing TD to save our lives. Hell, we could barely score a running TD. He made things somewhat exciting again. But somewhere along the way, he regressed to running the ball up the gut 15 times in a row even when it wasn't working and we didn't have a RB that could do that effectively. He became predictable, and I think that was at least part of our problem. One wonders now if it was Quinn that axes both coordinators or if it was Peters.

I highly doubt that. I’m sure he loved Daniels. I’m sure AP did as well, who had already been scouting him for multiple years. AP was smitten. He was by far his top QB available at our pick unless we think he’s lying to…secretly make his OC happy?
AP said clearly in his press conference yesterday his job is to get the players Quinn wants. Not the other way around.

You can still tell him to scramble when he sees it open while being a pocket passer. Similar to what the Chargers did with Herbert this year. The interesting thing is Udinski is apparently on their list. He transformed Lawrence's game this season into just that.
but is it really udinski or is it Coen? also, his name being on the list doesn't make sense. he's already an offensive coordinator. I would think the jags would block that.

I agree - but also disagree. Daniels can do a lot, but his instinct and one of his biggest strengths, is his running ability. Taking that “away” limits him. Why have a Lambo to keep it in the garage?

He’s not even very good on designed runs, he’s a disaster choosing whether to keep or give the ball on RPO plays. He’s SPECIAL as a scrambler, and he can protect himself more when he calls his own number. He can use that in any scheme. His arm and his accuracy is special, he’s allegedly got a computer for a brain. The designed QB runs were not what made him special, in fact they didn’t look very good most of the time imo.

Give this kid an offense that abuses motion like the best, boot him out at times, put him under center and abuse PA down the seam to a functional TE room. He has a lot we haven’t seen because he’s being used a certain way by Kliff. And not all of it makes life easier on him.

Except for where he had one of the best rookie seasons of all time in '24.

Makes it worse. He wanted him, likely to run. We didn't want him to run. So we drafted him... and the OC is a guy who was always going to be in the HC cycle again. It just doesn't compute.

It doesn’t compute because that’s not what happened. AP clearly was in love with Daniels and that’s the main reason he took this job after spending years waiting for his moment. He didn’t pick his QB based off of a mercenary OC with no coaching tree. People are getting swept up in the drama of the moment.

Agree this is a possibility.

But the clarity in AP and DQ has worn off and everything is a lot fuzzier where these reports start to sound a bit more realistic... even if I don't 100% buy in.

While I agree. It is clear Daniels wont survive his rookie contract in that system. At least to my eyes.
Comes back to my previous point. If you don't want him to run (that includes scrambles, he takes contact there more than he should, too) then Maye should have been the pick.

It's like buying a Lambo and keeping it in the garage - if they didn't want to use him as a runner on designed runs they should have drafted Maye. Period.

This actually pisses me off.

I think it’s absolutely insane to think that AP couldn’t have seen Daniels as a better passer and better scrambler as a prospect. Maye looks amazing, I like many preferring him in that draft. But he had flaws (as did Daniels, sure). But there’s no doubt that Daniels was perceived as much more than a “running QB”. Rewriting history on that point isn’t helpful. AP loved that kid and not because he could run RPO’s

Kingsbury was apparently the one pushing for Daniels over Maye the most. At least that is what appears to be leaking now.
Predictably leaking from the Kliff camp. JD5 was always gonna be the guy. AP told Harris that JD5 would change the trajectory of the franchise. That was before DQ and Kliff ever set foot in Ashburn.

Are you thinking of a different guy? You aren’t describing Kliff at all. In fact he refused to do that even when it would arguably be helpful

Daniels has the ability to run, sure. He doesn’t need to have a scheme built around a “running QB”. Nothing about Daniels’ skill-set necessitates an Air Raid style hurry-up spread attack out of pistol. He has an elite passing skill-set and one of his strengths is processing and anticipation throws, ball placement. He can thrive in any scheme, and minor in scrambling.

I don’t know. Has Jayden ever been asked to take a large percentage of snaps from under center? Has he ever not run the ball 10 times a game? Maybe he can, but as far as I know he never really has.

This season, Maye and the Patriots had one of the highest number of plays from under center, whereas Daniels and the Commamders had one of the lowest, which seems fitting. I would actually prefer to do what the Patriots are doing, but that ship sailed 2 years ago, doing so now seems like a bad fit.

Spot on Conn. Jayden has the talent to thrive in any system. Just because he can run the ball doesn’t mean we have to build a gimmick offense around him. In fact, I’d rather do the opposite.

I guess I’m in the minority here, but I don’t have a problem with this. Kingsbury‘s history is that he starts off strong and fades as the league catches up with him. He doesn’t adjust very well, and it seems to be happening again. He’s certainly not terrible, but we can do better. And having Jayden makes us a very desirable location that any OC would strongly consider.

He isn’t a running QB. He’s a quarterback who should utilize his ability to run in his skill set. It’s not revisionist. It’s what makes him unique.

And Kliff used him almost perfectly in ‘24, imo. If we try to turn him into something different, he was a bad selection.

I was there for it as well. I don’t think what made him special last year was the designed run calls at all. I thought that’s when he looked the most indecisive and frail. As a scrambler, deciding to take off, he looked best imo. And that’s a transferable skill. Did anyone really think it was sustainable to run a major RPO offense? I thought we were all under the impression he’d eventually have to grow out of it. I think it was a crutch, and not a great one a lot of the time
