That 2-year deal was wise on their part because they wanted to see just how sustainable he was in that role, and whether the word in league circles was true, namely that he's figured out relatively quickly and easily, and then doesn't adjust. I don’t think there is any chance he leaves for another OC gig. If he’s not a head coach he will be here.

I felt like he stayed last year cause the jobs weren’t great and he thought JD5 was special and wanted to ride that out. Leaving this year for an OC job elsewhere would make me worry about what we have in JD5. Head coach? Sure. But leaving for a lateral OC job would be a sign he’s seen something in JD5 he isn’t very confident in.

There are some on this board that have mentioned that possibility as their contracts are up after this season. Flores being one and Schwartz being the other. There is not salary cap on coaches, so I'd expect both to get paid. Only concern is first, I/we hope Whitt is let go. Secondly, DQ doesn't go to another connection dude, Al Harris. Let it be new blood.

DQ is gonna do what DQ is gonna do, right? My taste would be non-connection but hey if he goes that right, ok. Hopefully, it's successful. This organization has too many times gone with the connection theory and has failed as we've seen. I'm hoping DQ succeeds in whatever he does but as I have posted in other threads, if he fails this upcoming season to go at least .500, send him to pasture, so to speak. We move on.

Unlikely maybe but there are underlying circumstances especially with Flores that change things from the norm.
Teams dont usually let coordinators contracts expire like we have with kliff and the Vikings have with Flores so we're already in rare waters.

Flores has an axe to grind with the league, I can see him putting himself out to the highest bidder as a kind of #$@@ you to the league norm and as has been stated, kliff had a lot of fun last year and this year probably not so much, he may be wondering if there's a better opportunity to pad his resumé for another Crack at a head coaching job and maybe there's some mutual interest after this disastrous season for a change of scenery being best for both parties.

There is literally nothing to substantiate any of this, other than complete conjecture. Also, Kingsbury signed a 3 year deal in 2024, and is getting paid by the Cardinals through 2027. There is no way Flores leaves for anything other than a HC position--I would be flabbergasted if the Vikings allowed that.

I think it's less about "shiny new toy" so to speak than it is about wanting our defensive philosophy to expand and get out if it's comfort zone.

Our defensive scheme has been so bad for two years I think it's only natural to want someone with fresh eyes.

But I certainly wouldn't cross anybody off the list.

They may not have a choice, if he wants to leave he can.

Word on the street is they're trying hard to get him re-signed but there's got to be a reason it hasn't happened yet.

I imagine if they push hard enough they'll get it done but we're what a week away from the day he's allowed to sign a contract with another team?

We couldn't truly see what we had with JD5 and Co. this season. I haven't heard my mom as supportive of the team in a long time, she believes, as I do, that we need a good draft and JD5 needs some Chunky Soup. 'Nuff said.
