I would guess that Olsen will get the nod in the NFC based on team success. Reed should definitely be in the discussion though.
 
I actually think he's more explosive and dangerous than Gronk, but he doesn't benefit from Tom Brady being his QB. Can you imagine what Reed's production would look like if Brady were throwing him the ball? I think he'd immediately become the best pass-catching TE in the league. But yeah, by the numbers, Reed's probably the 4th or 5th most productive TE right now.

Yep. He has killed us with mental mistakes. I think last week was the first game in awhile where he didn't have multiple unnecessary penalties called. Hopefully he can learn to block decently with more time. If he becomes a capable blocker, he will really be a weapon. And I'll continue to say it - he's really grown leaps and bounds this season in terms of his aggressiveness with the ball after the catch. He has put some serious licks on people fighting for more yards. It's hard to understand how that aggressiveness with the ball doesn't translate into aggressiveness without the ball. Callahan needs to make Reed's blocking skill his personal project.
 
A meritocracy was established, and it carried through to the little things, like awarding hard work in the offseason with the parking spots closest to the facility, and the big ones, like entrenching Kirk Cousins as the starting quarterback.

And here's the truth on that: Everyone in the building knew Cousins was the best option for the team over the summer. Acting on that knowledge meant something, as did taking that storyline off the table for 2015.

That is an interesting point in reference to Brady. I think the argument could be made (and this is no knock on Cousins in any way, shape or form) that if you swapped qbs and head coaches, the records of the two teams would be reversed.

won't be to my chagrin. you're assuming my value function depends upon such feedback in a fashion that parallels yours.

you also misread my entire post. no doubt Gruden will survive and Cousins press on to even greater things - according to local lights. I simply don't see it leading to the ultimate finish line.

making noise is probably not the metaphor I would employ....but yes...I agree that McL will continue to build a team that even Gruden can succeed with. so there...we share something in common!

interesting thought! I was thinking about something quite different today but came to a similar conclusion: why we almost never see decade long dynasties or something approaching that anymore. most of it traces to the cap, the CBA and player movement.....as well as diminished player allegiance and, IMO, professionalism. and, finally, the overwhelming business priorities of the modern NFL. the Pats come closest to a dynasty or consistent challengers at the top rungs. coaching...and QB. same conclusion I came to....and the culture those two have sustained. the facts suggest it is very, very hard to sustain this kind of excellence. back in the day, one had the Steelers and Boys, then Skins, Gints, and 9ers. today? Pats for sure. perhaps Seahawks....we'll see.

but I don't see it happening. which is why I think that if the Skins stumble into a championship...it won't be a repeating signature leading to sustained dominance. all in the future, of course. so one will have to wait and see. let's say....what...over the next 3 years? does 5 years seem adequate for Gruden to win a championship or should this become a recurring "in search of" series?
 
Kirk Cousins kicks ass.

I believe he's already in the top 10 of QBs in the league, and I expect he'll move up even higher next season.
 
K. Cousins season statistics -

3624 Yards 22 TD's 11 INT's

That puts him right near top 10 in the league.
 
I feel like this was a watershed game for Cousins.

He was fantastic.

I hope he doesn't let up next week vs. the Eagles. That game is for all the marbles.

There may be a few around here that think that. :) There's always context that needs to be applied to stats, but it seems to be clicking for Kirk. That TD run was a broken play. Supposed to be a shovel pass, but it was well defended. He made a quick decision and took off. Wouldn't expect him to make a lot of TD runs like that, but it's another example of improved situational awareness and decision making from Kirk. He's still improving and I think he has more upside than many want to believe. Now if we could get him a running game.
 
Not gonna lie, it really looked like Kirk was playing with some swagger today. More than I've ever seen him before. It really looked like he was going to rip the Bills apart the whole game, and he pretty much did.

He gains more confidence with each performance like that. Now, if he could call an audible without taking long enough for us to need to take a timeout so we don't take the delay of game. .

Kirk Cousins had his best game of the year... The 1st half of this season looked like Nick Foles 2014 (no Desean Jackson)... This half of the season is reminiscent of Nick Foles 2013 (with Desean Jackson).

You can't help but readily compare two players separated by 14 draft spots... How well two average NFL quarterbacks have done 2013-2015 is completely determined by the availability of Desean Jackson. I think we've learned that you have to keep Desean Jackson on the roster, no matter who our QB is.

Anyway... I can get behind Kirk Cousins, if Desean Jackson is on the roster... I think Jay Gruden may also need a top flight WR (AJ Green or Desean Jackson) to really open up his passing game. Regardless, I still do not trust Jay Gruden, but the team is improved from 2014.

Anyway, Cousins isn't top 10... he isn't even top 15. If you can name 15 QBs better than him, then he isn't top 15 (and I think we can all do that)... Heck, I think I did that in a post last week. For all the oggling over Kirk Cousins 22 TDs & 11 INTs, why is nobody going gaga over Ryan Fitzpatrick's 26TDs & 12 INTs? Yeah, his QB Rating is high now, but so is Tyrod Taylor...

Right now, he's a good QB and has improved, but take away Desean Jackson and he is average at best (and we have evidence of that the 1st 7.5 games of the season).
