Been off the grid a bit this weekend ... any movement/comment/etc. on the alleged gauntlet thrown down that Kirk wouldn't even negotiate a LTD as long as Allen was The Man?

Saw the headlines of a Schefter interview that suggested Cousins never demanded a trade. I did not read further because I am mostly bored with it...just wish a long term deal could be reached to lay all this to rest.

Kirk is absolutely worth that money.... QB's are not a dime a dozen, Kirk has not reached his ceiling, and we stepped in **** when Shanny drafted him. He's our only hope for any long term stability and will attract the better FA's and draft prospects. Unless you want to wander around another decade looking for a QB, pay the man, and move forward. We can afford it without handicapping the team for years to come.

I also think, if they do sign him to some 100+ gazillion dollar contract, that anything short of loud noise in the playoffs every year means we wasted our money.
I also think, every tackle made should pay a bonus. And every missed tackle should result in a deduction at the same rate.
I also think, an extra set of goal posts should be added in the middle, 4ft apart. Any field goal 50 yards or longer, that passes through the middle bars, would be worth 5 points.

Here is another scenario. We trade KC to Cleveland for a bunch of picks. Snyder is happy since we didn't trade to SF.

Now, who is to say that SF doesn't contact Cleveland and offers them a nice bounty of picks for KC. Then Cleveland ships him off to SF. Snyder loses since he goes to be with a Shanahan.

With way things are going anything is possible.

Cleveland won't do that. They have the opposite goal. They're in the market to desperately aquire picks, as opposed to give them up. That's apparent in the fact that they were willing to waste away all those dollars on Osweiler's insanely high contract, a QB who they probably have no plans to use or keep, JUST for the sake of getting a #2 pick.
That tells me they, more than anyone, want to pile up as many picks as they can.

He's going to get even better.
Remember when he was considered a Turnover Machine, and everyone wanted to bench him, and try to squeeze out anything we could get for him in a trade, like a #4 pick ?
Remember the transformation and maturity that happened after that ?
What if we totally gave up on Kirk back then, and just accepted a #4 for him at that time ?
How would we feel about that now ?
The same way we would feel, if we refuse to pay him top dollar now, and let him get away.
Kirk will continue to improve, and there's strong historical evidence to support that.
You want guarantees. But there are no guarantees in the NFL. But Kirk is the closest thing you will ever get to a guaranteed return in the NFL, without actually being one. So the wise thing is to take it.

Lots of games you can point to where he WAS the reason we won too. But yeah, he didn't lead us to the playoffs and that's a valid criticism. Bottom line, you either want to keep him long-term and overpay, or you don't keep him. Fair, deserved, earned - doesn't really matter at some level. It's the NFL. None of them deserve the money they are getting if we are being honest.
