Japan hit by strongest quake ever (8.9) - tsunami warnings up for Pacific

I thought I'd provide a couple useful links in all this, one, to give a "let's not panic until we know what's going on" perspective from MIT nuclear scientists. It also details what is know about what actually happened and is happening inside those nuclear plants better than mainstream media.

There is a brief discussion about the article title then a lot of info but not too technical.

Two, here's a link to online streaming tv from a Japanese station for local updates.

I was in Yokosuka..would have been right in the **** if this happened in 93 or 94. I had buddies who went up to Misawa too. That place is SO damn isolated and cold.

hey Mike...I lived in Atsugi just outside Tokyo 94-96! not to march off on a tangent.....but you patronize any of the fertility parades?!!!!!....

The guy that took this was nuts

I was in Atsugi too..my squadron would fly there (E-S3A's) and then we would ride the Indy or Kitty Hawk out from Yoko.

Heard a lot of the radioactive smoke dissipated in the atmosphere but i dont know how that would have happened.

but Im also reading where they think the Japanese Govt is lying to us and were about to see a Chernobyl type meltdown.

which squadron?

remember the incinerator plant just off the golf course? that plant was pumping out carcinogens like nobody's business!

It's beginning to look like the only one that can stop this crisis is Superman

VS-21 for a while (regular S-3's) and then VQ-5..

I can remember sitting on the Indy down in Yoko and the water around it being lime green and just thinking "what the hell lives under there?"

My squadron as well (21)!

hey...our standard joke was that there wasn't a fish within a 100 mis of Japan!

Many pets were affected too. Watch the devotion and love of a dog.

The good news is that these two are in the care of a vet now. Hopefully, the owner(s) will be found. If not, these two will be fine. This video has gone viral and they will have a good home sometime soon.

Tsunami-hit towns forgot warnings from ancestors

Modern sea walls failed to protect coastal towns from Japan’s destructive tsunami last month. But in the hamlet of Aneyoshi, a single centuries-old tablet saved the day.

“High dwellings are the peace and harmony of our descendants,’’ the stone slab reads. “Remember the calamity of the great tsunamis. Do not build any homes below this point.’’
