Improvements you want to see in 2025

Honestly, I don't know where I rank Zane Gonzalez. He was pretty solid and made some big kicks for us. Likewise, Siebert before the injury. Maybe that speaks to a big open competition, but we weren't actually let down by our kicking game this year.

It may not have hurt us much, and it may have inadvertently helped us by figuring into all those fourth down tries, but kicking was an ongoing issue.

We used 4 different kickers last season, 5 if you count Brandon McManus.

As a team we were 3 for 8 from 50+ yards.

Kicking figured into three of our five losses. Worst were Cade York’s 0 for 2 in the opener, and Seibert’s 0 for 2 on extra points in the Dallas loss including one that would have sent it to overtime.

And the most important kick of the season was a lucky bounce off the upright.

Maybe it’s not our biggest need, but I don’t think the position is set either.

I could see bringing in a kicker. Kicking has been a perennial problem here, and we went through how many kickers last year?

Austin Seibert was kicking 90% for us and broke a team record so maybe he’s the answer. Not sure what happened with his injury though, and he had some bad moments.

I like Zane Gonzalez the way I like Nick Novak for his heroics, but I don’t think he’s the one.
I feel like his injury came from scuffing the ground during a kick (which he did twice that I recall). But I didn’t actually hear/read anything to that effect, he was just ruled out for the next game. Now that I type that out, I realize that’s probably not what you meant, lol.

I don’t know what happened with Seibert either. He had that 7 for 7 game against the Giants setting a team record, and he finished the year 27 for 30. But that Dallas game was bad, he missed a FG and two extra points including one that cost us the game, and that was the last we saw him before he went on IR so maybe the injury contributed to it.

Gonzalez is a great story but he is barely an 80% kicker and only has one 50 yard kick in his career.

Kicker would have been a bigger problem if not for our fourth down offense.

That Dallas game was a kicker's worst nightmare for Seibert - two missed extra points, a makeable missed FG.......All things considered, though, both he and Gonzalez were excellent signings after losing out on the kicker we thought we be our guy at season's start. Kudos to the FO for excellent scouting there. Not sure about bringing back Seibert or sticking with Gonzalez
