Hello all,
I come in peace with some observations from today's game with images I took while there. First let me say I am supremely disappointed with the images...I tried a new lens because it is lighter and smaller than the lens I would normally use, and with the limited crowd, security had the chance to be far more vigilant. The lens I normally use is not permitted, but I usually get it in because they just don't have time to really pay attention to it. So I tried a new one...and it sucked!
Before I hear the "I thought you'd never attend another game!" crowd, let me say I did not want to be there. I was obligated. 10 years ago I befriended a family who over the years either gave me tickets or allowed me to sit with them in the 1st row stadium seats for years. We're talking thousands in value for the tickets. Anyway, the man's grand daughter had her debut as a Redskins cheer leader today and asked me to photograph her for them. Of course I obliged!
As for the team, I do have a couple of observations....
I was glad to see Cam Simms come up big on a few plays. I like that kid.
McLaurin is the real deal. They need to get him a QB they can win with or he will be just another talented player who squandered his career away in DC.
I like Cole Holcomb, but he seemed a step slower than I thought he was. I thought I read he had 4.5 speed and I did not see that on the field today. He still makes up for it with a nose for the football, just almost always knew where he needed to be. He just didn't look as fast as I thought he was.
Is Chase Young playing injured? He certainly was not the impact player I looked for, today. He looked like he gave up on pass plays...on one on ones. I will say he did chase down a few run plays from behind, but he was not much of a factor and I did not see a lot of double teaming him.
I am confused by that secondary...they look brilliant one play, then get toasted so easily the next.
Overall, it just isn't a good team. The OL is just bad, even though Moses looked good.
Gibson is not a full time/starting RB, the way he holds the ball while running needs to be corrected. That fumble was simply him not protecting the ball. I have images showing him hold it like a loaf of bread.
It was a shame to see Kyle Allen go down, he's a decent QB. Alex Smith is a warrior, but holy shit those interceptions were atrocious.
And, I cannot tell you how good it sounded to hear them announce, "Alfred Morris with a long gain!" over the PA system. I was definitely rooting for that guy...not the Giants! I could not root for that team, but I did smile at Morris' ability to still churn off some yards. Love that guy!
And lastly, there was a limited crowd, so I know there isn't going to be much excitement ringing in the air, you know I was not excited...but the feel was very flat in that stadium. Of course there wasn't much to cheer about, but even on scoring plays it was just, meh. Everyone was expecting to sing Braves on the Warpath, and of course it was not played over the PA. And when the WFT made turnovers the crowd just seemed numb...like, oh well, we kinda expect as much.
Anyway, whether you appreciate the observation from someone less than enthusiastic about the team or not, there it is. Here are some images. Definitely not my best work, I am returning the new lens tomorrow...and will never look back.
