If Snyder Goes, Does it Change Your Perspective?

Many have verbalized that they're 'done' with Redskins fandom now that a name change is a certainty. Rumors that a 'big announcement', separate from the name change news, is imminent in the coming days are rampant on social media. It may have nothing to do with Snyder.

But I'm curious. If the 'big news' is that Snyder is selling and walking away as Redskins owner, does that change the equation for anyone? Will a name change have been worth it to finally shed ourselves from a horrible franchise owner who has all but destroyed a once legendary team?

If he sells, will the name change debacle have been worth it? And will you stick around and cheer for the next Washington NFL team? Does it change the equation at all for you?

I don't think there's a person on this board and damn few in Redskins fandom who wouldn't like to see Dan gone. Like everything else he does he's handled this poorly so far. You know what would go a long way to making things better for me? I'd like to see Dan hold a real press conference and surround himself with former and current players and coaches and speak from the heart about what this all means to him and, by extension, to all of us. Then he could lay the thought process out to the fans, apologize for past mistakes and ask that long time fans join him on the journey into the future of the team with a new coaching staff and a new name.

This of course will never happen. He doesn't have it in him. I don't think this team will ever be anything more than occasionally competitive under Dan's leadership. It's not going to matter if we change our name to the New England Patriots.

I don't think it's about making the name change less painful. It might well make the future of professional football in DC a lot less painful though

I can't decide how I feel about this . I hate the name change, but not sure how I'll handle it. I always thought it would be a great way for me to stop rooting. But I so enjoy it. Well, maybe not as much lately, but you understand. I don't want to quit football. I don't think I can just pick a new team to root for. While the name will be changed, the history of the team I've loved/hated is still there. I'd definitely be happier if Dan sold the team, but I don't blame him on this one. Football as a business is about money, and once the sponsors got on board, it was over.

I think there's a difference between blaming Snyder for the name change and giving him a pass (not that anyone here has given him a carte blanche pass).

He told every Redskins fan and all the world. I will NEVER change the name. He told the media present they could capitalize 'NEVER'. If I'm the owner and have said that, and now am in the position of my sponsors making going forward as the 'Redskins' untenable, I step down as owner. That's what someone with integrity does. He did not say the name would never change. He said HE would never change the name. Justify it any way you like - but he lied to us all.

It's a shame really, since he could have walked away a very rich man, and would've endeared himself to and redeemed himself with Redskins fans in a way he's never previously been able to do. The name would still be changing, but he wouldn't have an even worse legacy than he has already written by being proven not up to the task of living up to the most important promise he ever made the fans.

There's still a chance he lives up to his promise and sells, letting the next owner re-name the team. I doubt seriously he's the kind of man that cares about his personal integrity though.

I don't blame him for the name change. The current climate isn't his fault.

I do feel like he could have done more years ago to potentially head this off before it reached this point of no return. Just throwing your thing down arrogantly and making a big statement in the press doesn't fix things. He should have been working behind the scenes, with his minority partners, to bring as much of the Native American population on board as possible. Granted, even that might not have saved the team from the current action but at least he could honestly say he tried.

I do blame him. I think he caved really fast instead of trying to fight it.

FedEx signed a contract with us as the Redskins. Just because they "feel" differently now doesn't mean you can just rip up a contract
Nike signed one to make clothing for ALL NFL teams. They did it when we were the Redskins.

He could have fought it. He could have gotten a stay. He could have even won. We will never know because he gave up. He even said so in his memo today. It was the first thing he mentioned.

I'm not sure how I'd feel. Do I want Snyder gone? Of course, who doesn't. But this name change hurts. Not because they changed the name, but because of how it all came about and the reasons for it. I'm kind of numb right now without knowing what to feel. Someone I know that is a cowboys fans has been bugging me all day about it. He thinks it's all stupid too and I know he's just trying to get my feelings on it, but I just don't even have the energy to talk to him. So if Snyder sells, I'll be fine that something good came out of this. Part of me wants him to have to ride this out though. There is going to be some short term pain and he need to endure it. Him selling now would almost be a cop out. As for me, on July 13th, I really don't know how to feel.

I'm done. I have said I might cheer for the Ravens...not sold on that idea either. I will have to see how it plays out. I might just be over the NFL altogether.

I'll say it now, anyone organizing a fantasy league...I am not playing this year. Can't get the motivation to research for it.

I’m not sure. I’m reeling with the name change and being called a racist now for supporting the Redskins. I’m just overall pissed off at the “woke” society we are living in right now that seems to not give a rip about history.

If Dan Snyder goes, it would make the name change less bitter. I know it will ever happen so I’m just all around depressed with the name change and the NFL in general. Seriously, with this Covid mess, I’m just having a difficult time and don’t know what my future with the team or NFL in general is. The decline had actually started before Snyder arrived to bury the franchise. JKC's scions initiated the decline with their own special brand of bad business decisions/leadership. But they got their benjamins!

In the end Snyder came in arrogant and full of himself, believing it was going to be easy to win games and Super Bowls and those that had failed in the past were just ‘slow and stupid’.

For a 34 year old with no experience this was a sucker walking into a casino expecting to make $1M in a day and bask in the sunshine.

While he no doubt recognizes he made major errors in judgment regarding the selection of people over time you won’t hear that from him.

If he were to leave a lot of tension would be diffused in re this team.

One of the reasons so many were out with the knives on the name change in the media was that Snyder had made a lot of enemies, most because of his personal style and dismissive attitude.
