Boones right, a lot of us are exceptionally crabby at the moment, some of us because our hopes have been dashed, some of us because we had little hope and its been validated. bah. You know what I can't wait for? getting angry because we lost a game because we arent used to losing anymore.
 
Give him the full contract, you have to. I don't know of many coaches out there right now that I'd want, plus, the last real coach we had (Gibbs), did start to turn this around after his first season, don't see why Shanahan can't.

As others have said, I believe Kyle is the main problem. When he came in, I immediately said you can't mix family with business and I was really worried that there might be some sort of problem. So far, it appears that there is.

Kyle has been majorly inconsistent with his calls, doing opposite of what you normally do. Run working, abandon it, pass working, abandon it. Take the Carolina game, running the ball extremely well and he calls no play actions?

There's a lot more, we all know.

After this upcoming draft I think our team will start to take form and by 2013 we'll be good to go.
 
Thought this was funny. Apparently, there has been a conversation on Twitter about Peyton hillis being a target for the Skins in the offseason. This response made me lolz:

DrKnow77: I like Hillis, but signing him would indicate that the Skins will be a running team and running makes Kyle sad.
 
Plus Peyton Hillis may hit on Kyle's wife as he did with McDaniels' in Denver.

Well I'm one who didn't want Shanahan. I felt, and still do, that while he may be a good coach, he has been vastly overrated.

That said, he should get the 5 years on his contract. If we don't have a few playoff runs by then, buh-bye. And no one could say he wasn't given every opportunity to succeed. Including him.
 
Shanahan has made two mistakes here, one was trading for McNabb and the second was giving Jammal Brown a 5 year deal for $20M.

The first decision set the team back 12 months and that is why I keep saying that you have to look at 2011 as Year 1 of the rebuild.

The one thing out of the team's hands was the limitations on free agency in a year in 2010 when the team desperately needed fresh talent.

Count me in the same boat.

Personally, I was hoping for Gruden. Even though the so called geniuses think that would hurt us. I mean seriously, how do you hurt ****?
 
I'm with Ax. I wasn't in favor of bringing Shanahan in, I favored an up and coming coordinator (and don't say Zorn, he was never up and coming and wasn't a coordinator), and Shanahan is a retread and retreads have never taken a second team to the Superbowl. That being said, Shanahan needs to be given some time. Yes, he screwed up year 1 with McNabb, but this past off season seemed well managed. The lack of depth (especially on the o-line) and the lack of a franchise QB has derailed this season, but that doesn't mean they weren't on the right track. I agree there needs to be continued progress, but by the same token we can't just keep swapping out coaches every two years, there has to be some continuity and consistency or this team will never get anywhere.
 
Wasnt gruden just a qb coach when he was hired?

No, we can't.

Snyder's rep forces him to honor the length of the contract, or we'll never get any serious consideration by a good coach to come here.

That said, if Shanahan wants to admit he should be put out to pasture, and retires tonight, I could live with that.
 
Couldn't agree more Ax. The only caveat I throw out there is if the team plays as uninspired the rest of the year. Then I think you have to make a move. Last week, I thought Cam's big run at the beginning of the game took the wind out of our sails; this week, we had no wind at any point.

Shanny was unable to turn things around last week, and unable to get things started at all this week. If things don't reverse soon...

Gibbs had to do everything but give up a kidney to get us to the playoffs. Shanahan, well, Mike, don't make that Canton, Ohio hotel reservation just yet.

Gimme a bad coach ready for a comeback at this point. Personally - I think it's 'sell your soul to the devil' time. And since Dan Snyder's got him on speed-dial anyway, that's damn near a no-brainer.

We wasn't usin' it anyway.

It's really a tough call. We obviously don't have a top 10 coaching staff. Shanny is .500 lifetime. Why would that change here?

So you either just be happy with an 8-8 ceiling the next three years, or you roll the dice in hopes of something better.
 
I stand by my earlier statement: if things remain the same way they did today, I can't see letting him stick around. That leads me to the next question in this line of thinking: who would you hire if things don't get better? Are there Assistant Coaches in line that could be successful? College coaches?
 
The proper question here should be how long to give "which" Shanahan? I think after the performances past couple of weeks Mike Shanahan needs to take play calling away from Kyle Shanahan.

Kyle is going to be the down fall of his dad. You look and Houston's offense is still running at a high level, so it wasn't Kyle that made it go.

You can say the OL didn't do it's job, we have injuries, they set out to stop the run....but at some point as a OC you need to make adjustments. Philly did this when they went to a 3 step drop against us.

If we are having protection issues why run deep patterns? Use short quick patterns in lieu of running game.

This team has a lot of problems. The Head Coach needs to look at the performance of his coordinators.
 
I'd want a young hot shot... a genius with a good reputation for discipline and a firery disposition.

Either that or go for a college steal... the 49ers seemed to do well with their retread coach as are the Bills. Someone who has an NFL pedigree, but is kicking ass in college right now might be okay.

Still am hoping that Shanny can right the ship, but if he's tossed overboard... I want either the hottest young gun we can get or a shockingly good college hire.

But I don't want a Gruden, Cowher, or anyone like that. We've tried it too often with Marty, Gibbs, and Shanny. No past glory guys... want hungry guys who are shining right now!
 
One more year for Shanny, if we don't see improvement in year 3, then later but cutting him loose after 2 years means finding a replacement and in all honesty, who the hell would want this job??

I agree. Two years is not long enough. Not only will other coaches not want to come here but then you run into the inevitable changes of coaching, schemes and personnel that once again set the team back. Too much turnover is like trying to run in quicksand...you never get anywhere and start sinking further into the muck.
