Just trying to gauge everyone's opinion on Brandon Coleman's performance against New York and how you feel about him moving forward. Didn't have time to do a full film study on him this week, but the film from all 62 snaps is below.

Also, I'm always looking for ideas on which players/situations to feature in episodes of my weekly show 'Watchin' Film With Phil.' Don't hesitate to reach out or give an opinion on what you might like to see. I also realize not everybody is into this type of content and ask that those individuals just kindly ignore these posts.

Brandon Coleman All-22 Film - (NO AUDIO) Commanders O-Line vs Giants D-Line (11-3-2024)

He’s been amazing. For a 3rd round pick to be starting at LT without a bunch of hiccups and issues is truly stunning. We’ve handled the situation incredibly. Adam Peters and Dan Quinn deserve all the credit in the world.

The kid deserves a huge applause. He’s far from a finished product imo. He has a ton of upside still to come. He’s incredibly sticky in pass pro but can be more nasty in the run game. Sky’s the limit with him. His athleticism is off the charts. What stands out to me is his speed in setting up when the ball is snapped. He’s got a plan and sticks to it.

I'm not an expert, but it looks like his pass protection is rock solid. He doesn't seem to be blowing people up in the run game, but does seem to at least hold his own.
I'd agree. I'd also say he's got room to grow still, but I think he did pretty damn good in his first full game as the starter. Not perfect, but he faced Burns (who, in my opinion, is elite) most of the day and held his own.

HTTR4LIFE - thanks for sharing first of all. As to recommendations, I think line play is interesting as the broadcast angle makes it tougher to evaluate IMO, and then of course safeties are often off the screen.
As to specific guys:
Quan Martin - the aforementioned camera angle issue.
McCaffrey - he’s getting kudos for separation score, but he’s not seeing the stat sheet much.
Allegretti - is his play adequate, or good? Should we be looking to upgrade there?
Sinnot - how often is he getting on routes and how does he look when he does? How’s the blocking?
Sainristil - “pound for pound best defensive player” from the draft, a 5’8” rookie slot corner pressed into outside duty, and a guy that is reportedly already taking on a leadership role? What a story

Just my 2 cents :)

He has been solid despite missing a lot (all?) of preseason. I consider Coleman as our compensation for trading away Sam Howell since the net of their 2 picks was valued as a 3rd rounder. On draft day I considered him AP's dart throw at a Trent Williams in the rough. Its just who he reminded me of on tape but hot damn if he ends up just being a solid starter in this league.

I'm digging what we have here. For years I've bitched and complained about our unanswered need to upgrade at LT, whether via draft or FA. I often referred to it as a "Gaping hole" as far as "needs." But now I'm shutting up. I like what we see from LT. By that I mean that we don't hear his name during the game. So while folks are lining up to get their JD5 swag, I seriously may buy a Coleman jersey (just not "Commanders" " I'll wait for the name change or get black market Redskins gear.)

Yeah, I haven't done anything on Quan since his college film video. I will have to work on something soon. After today, I MUST visit the Sainristil tape first. The kid had himself a day.

Coleman seemed to struggle yesterday. The Steelers were constantly sending 6 and our offensive play calling didn't change. So that didn't help, but Coleman got beat early and often yesterday. His confidence looked shaken a bit as the game wore on.

Tough game, and you nailed it on the playcalling. It is definitely smart to play to your opponent's weaknesses sometimes, but when you have a strength, you shouldn't just throw it away either. When you take out the two turnovers that gave short-fields (fake punt, and Zaccheus fumble), I think you get a very different looking outcome. 21-20 reads differently than 28-27. That one TD makes it look like the defenses struggled more than they did. No, I think the O didn't do a great job on either side. 28 points made the Steelers probably feel like their O dominated, but that just wasn't the case; the only caveat is that at the end of the game, I do think our D was *tired* - and this again was a problem (to me) in the playcalling mix. I feel like our TEs could be used better, beyond just Ertz. Not sure if that is more a Jayden problem or a Kliff problem, but right now I think it's Kliff; I think some more runs may have opened some things up scheme-wise, and that is what happened TO us. The Steelers moved the ball with a lot of ease late when they needed it, which you could see coming a mile away with how they were pounding the ball.

Highsmith was owning him. PFF gave him a 60 grade. not bottom 5, but no where near top 5. this video of all of Jayden's throws and run is pretty damning ... just watch

I remember he gave up a sack and several pressures but I didn't realize it was as bad as this. Thanks for providing it. A rookie is allowed to have a bad game but it is suprising since he has gone up against other great pass rushers and held up well. But he was constantly beaten to the outside which set up the spin moves later.
