Health & Physical Fitness/Training Thread

Down about 10 lbs so far, primarily by adjusting my food choices, staying away from beer at the moment, and putting in an hour on a stationary bike every day during the week. Starting to mix in some weight training as well. Going to take me a few more months to get where I want to be, but I am feeling better already. It's shocking to me how much harder it is as you get older to drop weight and get into shape. One of these days I will figure out that if I get in shape, it's a lot easier to stay there than it is to start over :)

Plenty of time to make plans for this ...

Picked Insanity back up today. First time in 3 or 4 years, not sure which. Since I blew up my shoulder doing it, anyway.

Didn't make it through the warm up.

30 minutes later my 6 year old is still in front of the TV. Going strong.

*ugh*

Aging...not for sissies.

Shaun-T can be r real summonabitch alright! I need to argue with him tonight as well.

Anyone else do burpees? Have no idea how much "good" they do but sure as hell can wear you out and leave ya huffing & puffing.

Down 15 lbs since I started exercising daily again and managing my diet. I am surprised I haven't shed more weight, but I always seem to do some 'moving around' of body weight when I start lifting, so am pretty happy with my progress so far, especially since I've done this mostly in the gym without a lot of long outdoor bike rides.

I am about to go sub-190 lbs and it's been awhile since I've been that light. Feels good. I would like to get down to at least 180, with 175 my ultimate goal. I am going to try like hell when I do get there, to stay there for good. It takes so much work to shed weight as you get older as your metabolism drops. My goal is to eat conservatively during the week and exercise enough throughout the week that I can eat/drink whatever I want on the weekends and maintain my weight.

Awesome, John.

I had gained a good 12-15 lbs back after my big drop a few years ago from around 220 to 175. When the scale hit 190 about 6 weeks ago, I got pretty pissed at myself--I'd made myself the same promise you mention when I first lost all that weight: never again.

I noted the Intermittent Fasting thing I'm trying a while back ... so far so good. In six weeks I'm back to 181 and seeing steady progress. The best part? No real lifestyle change or "diet" in the traditional sense. I've started exercising more again--running 2-3 miles 3 or 4 times a week, and lifting maybe 2-3 as schedule permit. Nothing really strenuous, just looking for tone and stamina at this point (although I'm heading to Yellowstone end of July for a week, where there will be much hiking, kayaking, riding, drinking and eating, so I'm going to ramp it up between now and then on spec).

The IF thing is pretty cool. All I've changed is the timing of my daily calorie intake. I limit eating to 8 hours a day, and "fast" for 16. After being hungry in the late morning for the first couple of days (have always been a breakfast guy), it really has become quite easy. A piece of low-cal cake, if you will. I eat a healthy normal diet between noon and 8pm, then nothing but mucho water and maybe a couple cups of coffee or tea until noon the next day. And I've not cut myself off from partying a few times on the weekends either.

The overall result has been slow, steady weight loss. And I'm able to eat enough to not feel hungry and get enough protein for lifting days. Planning to keep at it until I hit 178, then dial back IF days to probably 2 or 3 a week, until I find a good balance of maintaining weight, strength and stamina.

We are going to look good come BGOfest III.

Dammit..seems I'm the only fatass that's gained lb's recently. Operation Fatass is in effect until further notice!

there is a "walking path" at my job that I just found yesterday....it is 1/4 mile round and so far I have been doing 2 laps per lunch.

not much but it is better than sitting in my truck and eating.

I started back to healthy diet and moderate exercise 1 month ago and am down 25 pounds as of this morning. I have 21 to go to meet my target of 200.

Is this burrito part of Taco Belll's menu?

Think 30 minutes on my tread climber will suffice tonight.

God help me, I love Taco Bell. I don't stop by often but when I do, it's a pretty scary thing. I'm like a teenage chick binging and purging. Except I never purge.

I had a taco loco dorito flavor and it was nasty.
