Agree, but Arizona did a fantastic job shutting down DeAngelo Williams & Jonathan Stewart. Hopefully they have more trouble with the ZBS & Hightower.

Again, the Giants did a fantastic job shutting down Hightower. We need to make AZ do that too.

Also, Carolina didn't commit to the run. They called 21 run plays to 43 pass plays (or close to that.) The numbers look more balanced because Newton scrambled a lot. I think that ratio is a recipe for disaster for us.

Another interesting Grossman stat from Campbell:

Grossman was sacked four times. On each sack, respectively, he held the ball for 2.6 seconds, 2.7, 3.0 and 3.1.

So he's not holding the ball too long - 3.1 seconds is about how much time he should have.

Well, numbers don't always tell the story. On at least of couple of those sacks I had time to pucker up, clench my teeth, and say something like "THROW IT AWAY FOR GOD'S SAKE!"

Not sure how long that takes but it felt like forever.

I think we'll see a LOT of blitzes from the Cardinals; if Rex can adjust and get off quick-passes, Santana & Gaffney should have HUGE days on the quick slant. If he can't, it might get ugly.

Could be, Lanky, even though their sack leaders from 2010 Campbell with 6 and Dockett with 5 are DEs, (OLB Clark Haggans had 5 also), the four sacks recorded against Newton were by S Kerry Rhodes, CB Richard Marshall, and OLB Joey Porter and one sack shared by ILBs Daryl Washington and Paris Lenon. Hightower may be as useful for blitz pick-up as he is running the ball.

Grossman ranked 7th overall in FO's Defense-Adjusted Yards Above Replacement.

"At Football Outsiders, we measure players by Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement (DYAR). We analyze every play of the NFL season and adjust it for down, distance, score, field position, and other factors. Players are rewarded not just for gaining yards, but also for picking up first downs – a six-yard gain on third-and-10 is worth barely any more than an incomplete pass."

Another interesting stat was this:
"Bombs away! Grossman's average pass went 14.4 yards past the line of scrimmage, by far the deepest passer among starters in the league."

I think this speaks more about scheme, and how aggressive Kyle is. Grossman's average yards per completion was 14.5, so it also shows there wasn't a lot of YAC by the WRs, because he was innacurate (which has been pointed out). His average yards per attempt was 9.0, meaning he left a LOT of offense on the field...

what pisses me off is we wasted an entire season with Mcrapp, I think Mcrapp only looked as decent as he did at timnes because we made him look good, much like Reid did, I think Grossman gave a better chance to win last year and this year he will be decent, I still want a young guy for shanny to mold though, but if he plays well we can build the rest of the team and then when we have a solid core, we can do a draft trade for the singular guy, right now? too many holes.

I was discussing this the other day, how far away are we from being able to mortgage about 3 or 4 top draft picks for one guy? I think we are at least one, perhaps 2 off-seasons away from being able to pull an Atlanta Falcons move to get a top tier QB in the draft. Even then, I would be reluctant to give up so much for one player.

I thought I'd throw another Grossman tidbit into the mix. I saw this mentioned on a site and checked it out in ESPN's game logs to verify it.

Rex Grossman has had four games in his career where he threw for over 300 yards.

Three of those four have been with the Redskins.

Maybe,,,,just maybe,,,a change of venue (system, scheme, coaching...etc) can make a difference.

el, the simple fact is that IF we have depth and a solid core, we can risk that without fear of becoming crappy in a season or two, teams with depth have that ability. I am with you in that I hate risk, but without big risk rarely will we have big reward, we will have to roll the dice uinless we get lucky with a low round pick ala Brady (which is super rare)

Serv thats a great point, sometimes scheme and change of scenery is a huge mnodifier, look at steve young after he left tampa. thats a huge one, maybe just mayeb we can work the magic with sexy rexy, who knows.

The thing outside of the stats that occurred to me during the game is I'm not nervous about QB play now. He's not a world beater and I still expect the occasional turnover from Rex, but if he continues to manage the game and play the way he has been the last 5 weeks I am completely at ease with him as our QB going forward, especially with Beck behind him and by all accounts really close in potential production.

A season I was under the assumption was going to suck looks very enjoyable now even if we don't make any playoff noise or go beyond .500 or so. I can see real progression in all 3 phases and this team competes so it's fun to watch win OR lose.

With you....with one caveat. When we lose, no one can still say **** to me for about 2-3 hours. I've learned to deal with the all-week-long angst/bile, but I have not yet mastered the instant-page-turn.

For me it really depends on the nature of the game. If the team puts up a good fight and does their best to claw out a win only to get outclassed by a better opponent I can live with that and be happy even in a loss. If they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like so many Cowboy games of the recent past or roll over and die before they even leave the locker room ala Philly last year or the Giants several years ago and I'll be a little grumpy for a few hours too, especially if it's a game I made the trip for like both those Philly and Giants 50+ pt debacles.

Somehow though I'm pretty convinced I won't see any of that barring a ton of injuries. These kids seem to have actually bought into the systems and each other and look like a team for the first time in a while. I hope Snyder is enjoying it as much as I am because by all accounts he's kept his word and steered clear and out of the way.
