Which NFL Rookie QBs have had the greatest rookie seasons in NFL history?

Several NFL rookie quarterbacks have had standout debut seasons, but a few stand out for their performance. Here are five who are generally considered to have dominated their rookie years.

1. **Dan Marino (1983, Miami Dolphins)**: One of the exceptions to the "rookies can't make an immediate impact" rule, Marino threw 20 TDs with only 6 interceptions during his debut season. He got Pro Bowl honors and took over as Miami's QB1 midseason.

2. **Ben Roethlisberger (2004, Pittsburgh Steelers)**: 'Big Ben' compiled a 13-0 record in starts during his rookie year. He threw for 2,621 yards, 17 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions, and led the Steelers to the AFC Championship game.

3. **Russell Wilson (2012, Seattle Seahawks)**: Wilson proved his doubters wrong by throwing for 3,118 yards, with 26 TDs and just 10 interceptions, tying Peyton Manning's record for touchdown passes by a rookie.

4. **Cam Newton (2011, Carolina Panthers)**: Newton set records for the most passing yards (4,051), most rushing touchdowns by a QB (14), and most combined yards (4,784) by a rookie. He also won Offensive Rookie of the Year.

5. **Robert Griffin III (2012, Washington Redskins)**: RGIII threw for 3,200 yards, with 20 TDs and 5 interceptions. In addition, he added 826 rushing yards and won Offensive Rookie of the Year.

A special mention has to be made for **Justin Herbert's (2020, Los Angeles Chargers)** record-breaking year. He set a rookie record with 31 passing TDs, most completions by a rookie (396), most 300-yard games (eight) by a rookie QB, and finished sixth all-time in passing yards by a rookie (4,336). His rookie performance earned him the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Each of these quarterbacks had extraordinary rookie seasons that stand out in the annals of NFL history. However, the title for the "greatest" rookie season is subjective and would depend on one's personal criteria for greatness.

What NFL rookie QBs have won playoff games in their rookie season?
Winning a playoff game as a rookie quarterback is incredibly challenging, but a select few have managed to do so. Here are some of the NFL rookie quarterbacks who have succeeded in winning playoff games during their freshman seasons:

1. **Ben Roethlisberger (2004, Pittsburgh Steelers)**: Roethlisberger led the Steelers to a 15-1 regular-season record and victory in the Divisional Playoffs against the New York Jets. He is the youngest quarterback to ever win a playoff game.

2. **Russell Wilson (2012, Seattle Seahawks)**: Russell Wilson led the Seahawks to an 11-5 regular season and a victory in the Wild Card round over the Washington Redskins.

3. **Mark Sanchez (2009, New York Jets)**: Sanchez led the Jets to two playoff victories in his rookie year, against the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card round and San Diego Chargers in the Divisional round, reaching the AFC Championship game.

4. **Joe Flacco (2008, Baltimore Ravens)**: Flacco helped lead the Ravens to a 11-5 regular season and wins against the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card round and Tennessee Titans in the Divisional Playoffs.

5. **Andrew Luck (2012, Indianapolis Colts)**: Although he didn't win a playoff game his rookie season, Andrew Luck led the Colts to an 11-5 record and brought them into the playoffs. However, they lost to the Ravens in the Wild Card round.

Please note that winning a playoff game as a rookie QB is a difficult task, but these QBs managed to create a significant impact during their first season itself.

All I know (which ain't much) is that we got something special on our hands!

marino started his rookie year by rolling into rfk and torching the skins with 6 ds.

That was his 2nd season after we lost the Super bowl then started out 0-2. The Redskins later lost to the Cardinals, Eagles and Giants but still made it to the playoffs. At least they swept the Turds.
