If we get the Alex we had against Dallas and PITT, I like our chances. Even without a healthy Gibson.

If we get the diminished Alex we saw against SF, or Haskins ... maybe not so much. Can't count on two defensive TD's every week.

Seattle's D has been less than stellar this year but they've been playing better, the question is can we get to Wilson and who gets the job of covering Metcalf?

Personally, I am not too crazy about how we matchup against Seattle. Wilson has been a pain in the butt for us in the past with his elusiveness and scrambling ability. Metcalf's size, speed and physicality might be tough to handle on out outside. Then there is Lockett's shiftiness to deal with as well. The backend is going to have to give their game of the year in my opinion. Seattle's defense has started to get into a groove lately too. They aren't the same guys that were giving up 40000 passing yards per week earlier in the year.

The one thing I am holding onto in terms of hope is that Seattle has one of their dud performances that you seem to get from them once a year. I am afraid that they already had it during the Giants week, but you never know - just maybe they can give us a second one.

You could also look at it like the Giants exposed them, similar to the way the Ravens did the Steelers prior to us playing them. Wilson is pesky but I dont think he has the game breaking rushing ability he once had. He's still really good, but he's also 32. It's going to be cold and possibly raining on Sunday, so if we can keep aggressive and use the weather to our advantage, it can effect he pass game.

I am not 'confident' that we beat them, but I can't help but feel a little bit of intrigue and hope given the way our defense is playing, and winning the last 2 game....

we will need to blitz in order to get Wilson. he has most teams number and, like other running QBs, we have issues with that.

If we have Smith I think we can win.
If we have Haskins I may not even watch.

What is the status of Gibson?

I only watched that clip for the 2.3 seconds Kay Adams was on. Just sayin’... Seattle is always tough (for us). I don’t know what to expect... a lot depends on Om’s point - does Alex play and is he physically back to normal. Unfairly or not, I am skeptical Haskins can lead us to a win.

Maybe Haskins time on the bench has humbled him to where he's been putting in the film work. I know last week he didn't look even adequate but he hasn't been getting 1st team reps either. I'd much prefer Alex if he's healthy to play but the way this year has gone I wouldn't be surprised if Haskins did enough to keep us in the game.

Fanbase on #7:

"Haskins caught the Hydrophoby and we had to lock him up in the corn crib.

The last people to blame for Haskins struggles are the fans :)

I'm not saying that they should try to lose this game, but with this being a tough matchup, if Smith is not 100% he should sit. The last 2 games against the Panthers and Eagles are must win games. The Giants get the Browns this week and the Ravens next week. They will most likely lose both of those games. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying. I'm not saying they should sit Smith just because it's a tough matchup they aren't expected to win. The Steelers matchup proved they can beat anyone. I am saying that if Smith is not healthy, then let him heal for the 2 games they absolutely must win.

It doesn't matter where a player is drafted.
If that player ever steps foot on the field, if he doesn't instantly play like a pro bowler, he's immediately labeled a bust by this fanbase.
This fanbase gives no one any lee way to develop.

You’re stuck in the past brother. Players don’t get 3 and 4 seasons to learn and produce. Rookie QBs drafted early in particular don’t get that. They have to show promise and progress and pretty quickly or someone else is going to get a chance. That’s just the way it is.

For me, it seems kind of weird to label Washington fans who have been waiting for decades for sustained success and a real franchise QB as ‘impatient’.

It’s quite possible they could ride Haskins full-time for 3 seasons and he still not be able to prove he can be the guy. How are we gonna feel at that point? Pretty sure no one will be lauding or taking consolation in our patience.

I like Dwayne. I was rooting for him. If he turns it around and shows us something when he gets his next opportunity I’ll still root for him. But it’s on him to find success. No one else can do it for him. And again, how fans feel about it is way down on the list of things that matter.

The fans aren’t at fault for Haskins’ performance. He is. I don’t know that a QB so thin-skinned that negative remarks hurt his feelings and affect his performance will ever get it.

Haskins played himself into oblivion and exile while his WR has elevated himself to team captain because the team lobbied for it.

Haskins had no progress despite weeks of time to solely focus on the mental side of things. One good drive and then dud drives soon afterwards shows he has not corrected anything. We were inches from getting picked off and giving San Fran a comeback.

I am damn expecting the Eagles to serve up a surge these coming weeks because they become much more engaged when Wentz isn't there, who is another QB with anti-leadership.

Yep it is on Dwayne to produce but my point is this fanbase is notorious for giving up on young players too early.

Just a few seasons ago, Matt Ioannidis was labeled a bust and now he's one of our best linemen. Hell, just 4 weeks ago, some were asking if Chase Young was a bust because his sack numbers weren't where fans thought they should be!

Rivera says the talent is there and that he's been doing the right things. Dude is half way through his second season...if the fanbase is as patient as it's purported to be, can they just step back and see what happens?

Right now it seems like the fanbase is clutching it's pearls and screaming "If Haskins has to start a game, season's over!"

We don't know that.....

Those are fair points. I think the dynamic now is all about the success we’re having when suddenly an ‘evaluation season’ turns into a possible division title/playoff appearance. In that context, suddenly plugging Haskins in there and potentially collapsing because we can’t sustain drives and score, generates a lot of noise and angst.

I don’t think Haskins did anything last Sunday to boost folks confidence in him and there’s more animation around that because we are the cusp of some possible success.

I could not agree with this more...

There have been people complaining about Chase Young's production... That he doesn't have enough sacks / TFL / QB pressures.

This fanbase is dejected and frustrated, I get it...

That said, I have not seen enough from Haskins to give me any true sense of confidence. I'm not saying he's a bust or will never be the guy ever, but if we're in a position to upgrade the position we should do it. When you look at guys like Ioannidis, Kam Curl, Chase Young, heck even Cam Sims, you see flashes. You saw them show out in certain situations and you said to yourself "alright, maybe we got something there." Haskins played great in the last 2 games of the year last year but he has regressed. When he came in Sunday, i saw NOTHING that lead me to believe he was progressing. He almost cost us the game twice.

Coming into this season I wanted him to get all 16 games because I wanted to know either way whether or not we were going to be confident going forward with him. That was also the expectation that Smith would not return, and we would not be contending for a division title. Things have changed, and as critical as we all have been with Rivera.... he's been right. He's seeing this team every day. He called this long before we went on this 4 game win streak... So I further find myself having to defer to him, also regarding Haskins. I also am not going to dismiss an element of 'coach speak.' Rivera will be critical, but he will not come out and destroy a player in public. He's going to compliment the positives and omit the negatives. I don't think we can latch onto his every word any more. The Media likes to dissect everything to break a story, but I simply think we cant do that with Rivera, it will consistently lead us down contradicting paths.

Here is an example with his footwork... this is the play that Sims 'dropped' that was down around his knees

View attachment 5039

His feet are aligned to throw the ball in the middle of the field, but his upper body is throwing the ball outside the numbers. If there is ever a time for Haskins to use that howitzer he has on his shoulder, it's now... step into the throw and put it on Sims.

Again, Haskins feet are aligned down the hashmarks, but he throws the ball out to the flat to Barber... Again a ball that was very low, forcing a difficult attempt at a catch....

I got this from Mark Bullock's article in The Athletic. If you don't have a subscription some of this stuff is really cool to read up on.
