Game thread: Skins/pats

Celebrations aside, Smoot's having a pretty decent game so far.

Zorn definitely pulled in his horns offensively. Two basic off tackle plays and a slow developing 3rd and long. Maybe just trying to give the D a breather, but still. A clear change of pace from the first two drives. It's preseason again.

On the good news front ... special teams coverage has been money so far. Looks like D. Smith chewed some serious ass this week.

But why do that? I don't see the Pats doing that. If you're going to play your first team for a half, you ought to give em legit practice. Don't care for a close to the vest approach. Too many years of that flowing into the regular season.

I keep expecting to see Haynesworth break out with some major disruptions. He's talked about looking forward to double and triple teams, but it doesn't seem like he's doing much with single blockage.

Does our team realize they can continue to play even though it is the 3rd pre season game?

Now that choice of descriptor is not something I thought I'd ever read from you Anne! :)

Sorry. Blame it on all the Daily Show reruns I've been watching lately. :)

I am not seeing anything this pre-season that leads me to believe we're close to being a playoff team. Could they look like a different team altogether come the regular season? Sure. And we have a very favorable schedule this year.

Still - we look pretty shaky at times.

Then again, we are playing the Patriots - even if it IS preseason :)

I agree I'd rather see a more aggressive approach. Seems to me the Redskins have been this way since Marty S. showed up. Had a brief ride under Spurrier, who I'm not really sure understood there was a difference between the pre- and regular seasons, then back to uberconservative under Gibbs and now Zorn.

Just the way we do business, apparently.

Disagree it has much to do with carrying over to the real games. We just haven't been very good offensively period.

Hey this is better than the last presason contest against New England, at least we're on the board, right?!

Special Teams playing pretty well tonight.

Pretty dysfunctional looking.

Anyone have any theories on the difference between the first possession, and the last three?

Did the Patriots "adjust?" Did the Redskins use up any real scheming they had for this "game" and are now just working on looks and creating matchups to put on film? Do they just flat suck and the first drive was a mirage?

Which, to me, is all the reason more to get after it every chance you get. If you want to be the best, see what the best do and emulate it. The best don't lay down in Pre-season with the first teams playing.

Damn, what's with the penalties tonight? That was a good area the past two weeks.

Concentration?

I don't like the lack of discipline tonight - bench penalties, 2 (at least) facemask penalties so far - sloppy....
