Game day Thread : Redskins @ 49ers

If Rex Grossman started this game, the Skins would've won today.

Think about that.

The Redskins need a QB.

Same as it ever was....

When you have 106 yards passing in 4 quarters of an NFL football game in 2014 with the rules changes over the past 20 years, you KNOW you have problems at the quarterback position.

How many times does your running back go for more yards than your passer in today's game?

This isn't the 1960's where a team finished with 160 yards rushing and 125 yards passing and won.

You can't do that up here anymore.

Gruden was running the ball and using the field position game with Tress Way because that was the only way for him to keep the game close.

If he had opened things up with Griffin there would have been turnovers and miscues and this game would have been over by halftime.

And everyone knows it.

John Beck would've won.

McNabb could come out of retirement last night, played today, and won that game.

Moses got blown up at least twice, but he wasn't alone. Even the run blocking didn't get it done at times. It shouldn't take 3 shots from a half yard out to finally score rushing because we have no friggin push, and Morris got nailed in the backfield a bunch the way they were gettin penetration.

You can put Payton, the next coming of christ, mother lovin Manning back there, and he'll look just as bad.... except he'd be throwing hissy fits after each play.

When RG3 took that helmet to helmet hit they should've pulled him for a concussion test and then let him watch Colt McCoy (at best the leagues 50th best QB) win the game easily even if he just got a few FG's.

Yet somehow Colt Freaking McCoy looks 1/2 way decent behind the same OL and Cousins got the ball out 95% of the time.

If Cousins got it out and completed it that much you know Peyton Manning would be lighting teams up and those guys would all be pro bowlers and praised around the league just like anybody else who lines up in front of Manning.

Teams can hit or miss on a quarterback. As many high picks fail as make it. Those are the odds.

But what kills me is this team gave up a GENERATION of draft picks for ONE player on a high stakes roll of the dice.

Teams like GB, SF, NE, PITT, etc. that consistently put winning teams on the field don't ever seem to make those kind of gambles.

They play the higher percentages and cover the potential downside of making a mistake.

To put the 2012 trade for Griffin in perspective, the Redskins gave up more to get Griffin's pick than the Broncos did to get John Elway's pick in 1983.

That's absurd. Coming out of college, Griffin was in no way the equal of Elway coming out of Stanford in 1983.

The Colts got Luck by staying where they were and using their own pick.

The Steelers got Roethlisberger by staying where they were and using their own pick.

The Packers got Rodgers by staying where they were and using their own pick.

Even better?

The Saints got Brees as a no-compensation free agent in 2006.

The Patriots got Brady as we know with a last day draft pick.

The irony is the other team that gave up a LOT for a quarterback in terms of picks, Chicago, for Jay Cutler is like the Redskins in the process of questioning their own decision-making.

The Redskins have to stop trying to hit a home run on every at bat in free agency and the draft, and simply start hitting a LOT of singles and doubles and if they do that the 'runs' will come in time.

But this organization shows absolutely no patience.

Cuz he'd unleash the dragon.

And suddenly stop throwing interceptions on game winning drives

The current argument reminds me of Heath vs. Gus.

The trouble is then like now, the answer was NEITHER.

When you got good Rex, the Redskins did things like:

Beat Seattle in Seattle
Beat the Ny Giants.

With RG3 now, there is no good, just bad.

Lol...yet you think backup Grossman would be good.

Got it!

Noooooooo!! Neither are the answer!

Rex today would've given us a 50/50 shot because say what you will about Rex, he was never afraid to go down the field.

RG3 surely is.

Grossman would have felt weird since he held the clipboard for so long.

Might Be Funny Though

This conversation is gross, man.

Colt as a starter isnt the answer. Its just not. He's not starter material. He made that obvious in the first half of the Dallas game. Also, he is getting A LOT of undeserved credit for that Dallas win. The defense and special teams deserve 90% of the credit for that win. Colt just managed to not give it away (at best). ALL THAT SAID, RG3 has to be benched. There's just no doubt about it. His performance is absolutely horrible. You can blame the O line all you want, but like someone already mentioned, both Cousins and McCoy played behind that O line and didn't look as horrible as RG3 (with the exception of all of Cousins's int's...but that has more to do with him being a shitty passer, not the O line). We need to bench RG3, let Colt finish the season (as painful as that may be to watch) and put RG3 up as trade bait asap. Then pray we can draft a decent starter or grab up a vet (non-mcnabb-washed up has-been) free agent.

"Many Redskins fans are baffled at why Colt McCoy is not the starter after leading the team to a win over Dallas. Fans need to realize that Washington gave up tons of draft picks for Griffin and wasn’t going to turn their back on him just for Colt and after only one game (Houston) for Griffin in the Gruden system. The main reason the Redskins won that game on Monday Night Football in Dallas was because the defense didn’t give Tony Romo room to breathe. McCoy simply didn’t lose the game, even though he threw a horrible interception in the end-zone that killed a certain scoring opportunity. McCoy’s arm strength does not match Griffin’s either and if you check both of the qb’s stats and track record you will find that McCoy doesn’t match-up well to Griffin at all. Let us not forget that there is a reason this is Colt’s third team in three years, it’s likely no NFL team views McCoy as a starter."

Never heard why Amerson was inactive...Any clues? Porter absolutely was a downgrade which should have been evident from his volume of work so far.

While I can agree with a lot of what your saying, Cousins got beaten up behind that line, and rattled to the point he could no longer function. He's actually a fairly accurate passer when he isn't getting pressure in his face ever drop back. Any QB that starts two consecutive games behind that line will be rattled, possibly beyond repair.

OH, welcome to the site !
