I guess I was thinking his mobility more than anything else. Who will be our backup? Rex? It just doesn't make sense that we would keep such an immobile QB when the O-line is adjusting to such a mobile QB.

If the Titans sign Peyton Manning, there's a good chance Matt Hasselbeck would be cut. He's no spring chicken, but he knows the WCO backwards and forwards, and would be a great vet backup (IMO).
 
Merriweather can definitely play.

The key is ensuring his off the field issues are really behind him.

Bellichick didn't think so and ended up cutting a guy that was a top draft pick who had made the pro bowl.

That doesn't happen very often.

Just curious...but have the kinds of numbers we're seeing so far in FA eased the angst that some of you have expressed over the $$ we paid to Garçon and Morgan?

Seems to me the cost of doing business in FA 2012 has simply ramped up more than most envisioned.

That or the bounty the NFL stole from the Skins/Boyz to spread around loosened up some tight wallets. :cool:
 
Prelim reports for Mrs. Merriweather are 2yrs/$6 mil. Seems kinda low. Wasn't stellar with Da Bears last year. I guess we'll see what Morris can do with him.

But, but.....doesn't Rex know the WCO backwards and forwards too? HA, I couldn't even say that with a straight face. ;)

Hasselbeck would probably be a decent mentor for RG3 providing he doesn't mind that role.
 
Interesting post on Brandon Merriwether by Mike Klis sportswriter for the Denver Post.

I was perplexed by the Broncos’ pursuit of safety Brandon Meriweather. I mean, he’s good. He’s talented. He’s a two-time Pro Bowler coming off a forgettable year (read: available at a discount rate).

But he’s not the Broncos type. Brian Dawkins is the Broncos type. Like it or not, Broncos, Tim Tebow represents all this franchise could want to be.

Google Meriweather’s name and there’s troubling incident after troubling incident in his past. Not that the Broncos’ locker room is full of Boy Scouts. They’ve kept attorney Harvey Steinberg plenty busy over the years.

But the Broncos pretty much stopped doing deals with the devil since Mike Shanahan left. Wouldn’t you know it, Meriweather signed with Shanny’s Redskins. The Broncos have Browns safety Mike Adams in for a visit today.

Good for him. I gotta tell ya, for a little guy drafted in the seventh round it's pretty awesome that he's managed to stay in the league this long. Was is that, 11 years?

I hope he signs a one day contract with us when he decides to retire so he can retire a Redskin.
 
I thought I heard Garcon yesterday on ESPN980 saying the RG3 thing didn't factor in?

Not that what he'd say publicly is worth the air it's muttered on. Of COURSE he's going to say he was excited about the possibility of playing with RG3.....or Luck....or anyone else who happend to be QBing a team that came after him hard with real $$$ and a shot at a #1 spot. :)

Yep, Rock. Drafted in 2002, so 2003 would have been his first season. I believe that would make this his 10th! He's also almost exactly one month younger than I am, which is pretty cool. Was always one of my favorite Redskins.

EDIT: NVM, Mafs are hard. 2002 would have been his first, so this is his 11th season.
