The Redskins will do what they're gonna do with that ultra-high #2 pick. All we can do is wait and see and perhaps cross our fingers they do what each of us thinks they should. But as we've experienced in every draft, sometimes the most impactful decisions aren't the ones everyone talks about. Who was screaming for Terry McLaurin last year? Who even knew his name? And yet, right now, he looks like he was the most impactful player we drafted in the 2019 NFL draft (would love for Dwayne Haskins to prove me wrong on that front).

Beyond that 2nd pick, knowing the picks we currently have (and recognizing we could add significant picks before the draft with some trades), what players and/or key positions do you all think are absolute musts or could be franchise-boosting additions?

I haven't done enough research to know who may/may not be available, but TE should be a priority in the 3rd round, perhaps 2nd depending on the path taken with players like Trent Williams.

That was my immediate thought too El... although it could also be corner depending on what the Redskins do in free agency.

If we trade down in any fashion I’d hope they grab the best TE and LT available.

Finding a gem FS or CB would be after those 2 spots get filled.

The Missouri TE would work in the 3rd regardless of trade down or not

Stanford has a kid who’s 6’7” that would fit the bill as well

I would prefer the CB's be added in FA unless we trade down and end up with Odukah. I saw some of his interviews and he is definitely a sharp kid.

So if it’s down to Simmons or Okudah who you got?

I gotta say Simmons. I did some research on this kid and not so much on Odukah, so I will admit I am not as objective as I should with a question like this.

But Simmons is so impressive. I was leaning further and further away from the trade down option the more I saw of Young, until I researched Simmons. That kid is going to be the hybrid LB that McGloughan thought he could make Sua Cravens into.

Also got Stroman coming back with another season under his belt, and a new secondary coach

Also, Danny Johnson.
I mean, I would definitely try to bolster or upgrade the CB position this offseason, through draft and/or FA...however, I don't see the urgency of spending a top pick on one, considering our other needs.

Any one of those kids could elevate the defense for years to come. With JDR now in charge, the defense should step way the hell up as is. Throw in some speed and they’re good to go.

At least one of Young, Okudah, or Simmons should be our 1st round pick, trade down factored in. That’ll be a tough choice come draft day but I’d probably lean towards Simmons as a favorite

Hoping we can land Bradberry & Trey Boston in FA. Maybe add a CB or FS with one of the 4ths

THIS

As far as later in the draft, there is going to be some SERIOUS WR talent coming off the board on day 1 and 2... and my guess is a quality guy falls to the 3rd. KJ Hill absolutely popped to me. Body control, strong hands, elusive.... he's an Ohio State guy, that could be a steal in the early 4th depending on what the momentum says. We may have to use 3.02 on him.

Van Jefferson had a minor foot procedure which could cause him to fall a little bit. This dude is one of the best route runners I saw when watching the cut ups from the Senior Bowl. He's not going to be a dominant no. 1, but he is extremely slippery and quick in space.

Akeem Davis-Gaither is another candidate for round 3, if we don't get Simmons. A little undersized but add 15 - 18 LBs and he could be a great Will LB

We HAVE to get some sort of an answer at LT though. I don't think Geron can handle that spot for the duration of the season. I am not in favor of a big contract for Trent, so we may be forced to use the 3rd round pick on LT simply out of desperation. There may be a couple Tackle prospects there, but I don't know if i'm comfortable with any of them being taken with the idea that they're a long term starter anyway... .so if we CAN find a long term starter at another position...we have to do it, and piece together LT with bubble gum and duct tape for 2020. Maybe we can convince Penn to come back for another season, even if we overpay a little bit to save Haskins.

Claypool is another one to consider.

...

FWIW Okudah’s combine Q&A, I thought he interviews very well and seems confident without being arrogant. Some team’s secondary will get much better with him on it.

Who is Claypool?

Notre Dame WR/TE...Good combine

"Chase Claypool, Notre Dame. Claypool's size and workout both rivaled Calvin Johnson, and anything Megatron related had previously been believed to be untouchable. Even bulking up close to 240 pounds, the Notre Dame star ran 4.42 and had a ridiculous 40.5-inch vertical. Those figures don't necessarily show up on film, but they'll be at the top of his pre-draft resume now. Only two players at 6-4 and at least 235 pounds have ever run a sub-4.45 -- Johnson and now Claypool. "

Who is Claypool?

Yeah, Fear nailed it. Sorry I haven't been on to respond.

People have suggested he transition to TE, ala Niles Paul. I don't hate the idea, but 4.42 speed isn't something I want to be using as a blocker.

Claypool was a day 3 prospect up until last week where PFF has him ranked as a 1st round talent. I don't think he goes there, but I do think his stock went way up after that 4.42 40. As that report that Fear The Spear shared, the film did not show a 4.42 guy. That was a big time surprise. He prepped and practiced for it, and was able to show out.... I don't think he makes it out of round 2 anymore. I don't think he goes day 1, because I don't think he's going to be as good against long DBs where quickness, and small space moves, are the most important thing regarding separation... but I do think teams will get intrigued with THAT size matched with that straight line speed. That's the factor that could push teams to move him to TE and continue to add weight.
