I've never fly fished. It looks like a blast.
Come to SW FL, the flats fishing is outstandinghey Mick - no, we basically did our sight seeing on the treks out to the rivers but I don't remember being at the place you mention. It's such an incredibly beautiful part of the world - the "last frontier" is exactly how it feels IMHO.
Dave, it takes a bit to get into, but I would highly highly recommend it as a totally complimentary experience to what you've been doing. And there's some similar environs/species fishing with bones, permit & tarpon in salt flats in the Caribbean which is supposed to be just outstanding if very technical.
I've never seen a salmon that was so high top to bottom. I've been to Alaska, dIdn't fish though, but never saw or heard of something like this. Beautiful.Love fly fishing...this is from one of the rivers on the Seward Peninsula near Nome from a couple years ago. Going back this summer!

Nothing like that in this neck of the woodsNo ban on Flounder ?
And no more BP oil on the fish ?
I always thought the BP spill made it easier to fry the fish, since the fish are already oiled and greasy. ready to fry
Yes sir, red tide can mess with you bigtime. Mainly repertory issues, and does effect some severely. I hear it can give you a rash from swimming in it. It took me a while to realize that it was effecting me while working about a mile from the beach. Like bad allergies for me... The fish kills really suck, and have to be cleaned up, so your beach trip could wind up a disaster. The news always finds some tourist to bitch on camera how their vacation was ruined by it. Not too bad for the locals who pay attention... which is less then 1/2 the population here. It's always reported by all the news outlets, with maps and phots / videos from the air. A lab rat that's been lobotomized could figure it out... You can often work around it if ya have a boat, as it's generally closer to shore. Lots of resources out there to keep you informed. They say it has a lot to due with fertilizer run off into the bays and estuaries that causes the abnormal algal blooms.I've heard that Red Tide could potentially make a person super sick.
A friend of mine was surfing, and it made him extremely and chronically ill
I wasn't kidding when I said the sharks caught onMiles Monroe that was the most beautiful display of violence I have ever seen.

Went fishing on lake ontario for king salmon last week.
