Final 53 Man Roster for 2012

I hope those WR selections are correct. Austin is okay but hasn't done anything to break into the top 6 imho. I will cry if we keep Banks and let one of those 6 go.

on a rebuilding team, athleticism and youth need to win the day.

where a veteran is close to a rookie, I would think the choice is obvious.

upside my friends :)

This is why I think Cooley could be gone. I just hope we can get value for him in a trade and not simply release him. And that is a reason I see us keeping him...see if a trade can be done before the deadline if we are desperate for OL help.

While I think we should be seeing more from LeRibeus at this point, you have to admit that the late picks in Morris and Crawford have looked like keepers. It's a shame Minnifield went down in minicamp because he might have been a second rookie kept in the secondary.

Here's my go:

QB (3): Bob, Rex, Kirk
RB (4): Tim, Al, Evan, Roy
FB (1): Darryl
WR (7): Pierre, Santana, Leonard, Josh, Dezmon, Aldrick, Niles
TE (3): Fred, Chris, Logan
OL (9): Trent, Maurice, Will, Chris, Tyler, Josh, Tom, Adam, Chris

DL (7): Stephen, Adam, Barry, Chris, Jarvis, Doug, Delvin
LB (8): Ryan, Brian, London, Perry, Chris, Rob, Lorenzo, Keenan
DB (8): DeAngelo, Josh, Richard, David, Tanard, Brandon, Madieu, DeJon

Specialists (3): Nick, Neil, Sav

I just can't see Banks making the roster...I just can't. Delvin Johnson has impressed enough to earn a spot, IMO, as has Baker, Worthington & Scott on the DL. Niles will be kept as the 7th WR/TE hybrid, but he hasn't shown a lot yet. He could be among the surprise cuts, if Shanahan decides to keep Austin or Armstrong.

I must have jinxed him; Rackers was released today, Gano wins the job.

Updated:

QB (3): Bob, Rex, Kirk
RB (4): Tim, Al, Evan, Roy
FB (1): Darryl
WR (7): Pierre, Santana, Leonard, Josh, Dezmon, Aldrick, Niles
TE (3): Fred, Chris, Logan
OL (9): Trent, Maurice, Will, Chris, Tyler, Josh, Tom, Adam, Chris

DL (7): Stephen, Adam, Barry, Chris, Jarvis, Doug, Delvin
LB (8): Ryan, Brian, London, Perry, Chris, Rob, Lorenzo, Keenan
DB (8): DeAngelo, Josh, Richard, David, Tanard, Brandon, Madieu, DeJon

Specialists (3): Nick, Graham, Sav

EDIT: I have to say, its probably an unpopular opinion, but I like sticking with Graham over Neil. Its about time the Redskins stuck with a kicker that they've groomed; hopefully this gives him the confidence to go out and have a great year. I'm tired of seeing the Redskins cut young kickers after some minor struggles, only to see them sign elsewhere and succeed (Suisham, Novak, etc.).

Grant Paulsen makes a great point about Dezmon Briscoe - he can ball, that is for sure, but if he's on the roster, that's 4 of 6 (or 7) who don't play on special teams. Niles was returning kicks...looks like Shanahan is desperate to find a home for him.

So, you cut/trade Grossman. BAM!!!

Cooley used to play on the coverage teams. Might have to get creative.

But Banks was not a factor on the ST coverage units so keeping him as the returner still means you have to sub for him on the other units.

Crawford can return punts and play on the cover teams.

I don't see that as a problem.

If anything it is confirmation that the talent here has simply gotten a lot better and one trick ponies are finding it harder to stick around.

Golston is a better football player than Darrion Scott. Scott hasn't appeared as a regular NFLer for a 16 game schedule in how long? I know the guy was a former #3 pick of the Vikings, but he has really shown me very little.

Meanwhile Golston is a hard worker, is key on the FG and punt units inside, and can play DE or DT in a pinch.

I could certainly live with that, BB. Though do I hope that Hightower is on the active roster now, and Banks is on another team. Hightower's consistent blitz pick up ability, trumps Banks occasional big return. All the while suffering through his muffs, and constantly bringing the ball out of the endzone, when he shouldn't.

I've grown tired of his act.

The issue with Hightower is whether his knee is going to hold up and where we are going to be in Week 4 or 5 if he comes up lame.

The Helu injuries only complicate things. He can't seem stay healthy either, although seems less serious overall.

Wow BB, so you think we keep 7 receivers, counting Banks ?

Yes I do. Even if Banks appears on occasion at WR as a decoy, a trick play threat, or an end-around type player. He could stay mainly as a returner though.

As I said, this is one person's roster guess. :)
