Drinking the Kool-Aid, is it a bad thing?

May as well make this my first on topic post here as well...

I'm a kool-aid drinking, Burgundy & Gold sun glass wearing homer. I always have been, I always will be.

I get this from my Dad and Mom, every year is a new year and optimism is at it's highest on the eve of the season opener (which just happens to coincide with this post)
Hell, we can go 0-4 and all it will take is a quote from a player or coach and my homer-ism will ignite with a flame that burns bright.

Awesome to see new members. Welcome aboard. Be sure to stop by the chat during the game tomorrow. We all drink the punch to some degree or other. Even the most pessimistic take a nip now and again. How else can you keep coming back for more? I always try to temper my enthusiasm, but by kickoff tomorrow I'll have it rationalized out why we will stomp the division on way to the big game. It's kind of like playing the lottery. I buy a ticket every once in a while knowing I'll lose. But until the numbers are picked, I'm a potential millionaire. :) If it goes to crap in a basket, I can be a realist, but unless it does, I'll start out full of hope. It's a much more pleasant place.

Hail

But last year... last year was devastating for me. Anytime I think about it, I'm at a loss for words.
This is exactly how I felt last year. Normally I am watching as many games as I can, but I found myself barely watching the Redskins games. I was really devastated. Great post!

last year was the first year I ever turned a game off without finishing it. The KC game was just too brutal..it was like we werent even really there but some random dudes in the parking lots in uniforms.

I'd like to add that I was starting to worry that all my fellow Redskins faithful were turning. Not against the team, but against the idea that being optimistic was...ok. But in the less than 24 hours I have been here, & seeing so many people that I haven't seen in years & the overall feel I get from this community...dare I say? I'm home. This is what it's SUPPOSED to feel like being a Redskins fan going into the season, chumming up with old friends, guzzling Kool-aid with reckless abandon, looking forward & not behind...oh yeah, this season is going to be GOOOOOD.

Man, I can't tell you how much I have missed everyone that I am seeing here. Bring on the Texans indeed. The Redskins are gonna surprise a whole lot of people this season.

I'm sorry that I don't know who most of you new folks were at ES, unless of course you were yourselves :twitch: With the number of members when I bailed out there, I just couldn't keep up with the influx of members, and get to know people. I know everybody here for the most part, and glad to see you and all the others just joining us here.

I've been a fan longer than most have here have been alive. There were years you knew were going to be bad.

Like many I was spoiled during the Glory Years. I expect my team to win every week. I hate losing...at anything.

I am not asking for Super Bowl every year. All I want is a competitive and consistent winner.

Pete...my game day jerseys are ready. Adult beverage assortment I are chilled and ready. Now just give me a W and I will be happy.

A fan longer only because you're almost old enough to start farting dust Gary :instigate:LOL
My Jersey is pressed and ready brother, beer cold, and all ready to BBq some chicken thighs. Lawn is gonna have to wait till Monday morning...

Hey, when Om tells Boone to go out and "work the corner" he always brings back something...or somebody........ ;)

ONly because he has the sexiest nipples you could ever see.... and he has a thing for goats :uhoh:

I'm in the same boat as Boone. I flip flop and meander from camp to camp. I used to be an ardent optimist and can still lean that way depending on the topic and who I'm debating, but I've had a couple different breaking points the last decade or so.

The first came with Spurrier, man did that man break my spirit as a fan. He literally took the fun out of being a fan for me and it took a while for it to start to wear off. Next up was me just getting fed up with fighting the fight. Every year I was the only one around me (I live in Ohio) who was delusional enough to think my team was going to be good only to see them disappoint and embarrass again. I've been one of our FO's constant defenders at least in terms of still supporting them even when the continue to screw up time and time again. All of this is counter to my true nature which tends to be a pragmatist and a realist when looking at life in general, so it took effort. Then came Shanahan. Man what a roller coaster. We FINALLY got the owner to butt out and we FINALLY got a Gm and coaching staff that had some street cred that wasn't 20 years old. We all know how it turned out and although we got some new faces here we didn't do a full purge and we still have one of the ajor liabilities from before in Haslett. All of this has brought me to where I am now which is generally not too optimistic but hopeful that something will finally click and this team will take off. Philosophically in terms of X's and O's I lean Ryman's way and am still very unhappy about the state of our talent in the trenches and secondary. So call me guarded and in need for some tangible proof before I buy in again. -edit : and don't even get me started on the name change thing...I've railed against the ignorant on that topic to the point I should probably seek help. ;)

I say all this as a season ticket holder for over a decade that travels from Columbus for the games I come to, so there's some dedication there, the team just needs to start earning it again. That said I'm no debbie Downer who likes to crap on other people's optimism. If you're all gung ho, good for you. :)

Oh and to all the new/old folks- Welcome! I come from different haunts (CPND) but (as you will soon discover) have found this joint to be the best home on the net for a Redskins fan. :)

I have been a member at ES for over 10 years. I am not using the same name here as I was there. I just moved to the Gulf Coast in the last 5 years, so...

That said, my original name there I posted in a thread started by thesubmittedone in the Gateway Forum. I care not to repeat it. I have my reasons. But when I started over there, it was very similar to how this place is now. I love it here already.
