You claim as do others that our talent is inferior to the Philadelphia Eagles - with that in mind and with the ultimate goal to beat them in January - wouldn't we want to hold back as much as possible from them getting film on certain plays in order to surprise them at the Linc in January?
Does the 6th or 7th seed really matter if we need to beat a more talented team to get the Lombardi? Wouldn't strategy and catching a punk ass like Sirianni off guard be the way to go?
Hi, there is a lot of grey area here.
First, teams coming off of a bye who are less talented often struggle. I strongly believe in momentum. Momentum isn't a physical thing, it's a mental thing. It's a psychological state. If you're playing well, your confidence soars. If you're playing poorly, your confidence lacks. Resting starters is a double edged sword. You're decreasing fatigue, which should help with fitness and preparedness. You also reduce the risk of injury to your key players. But you're decreasing reps. And you leave potential for momentum to slow.
Because we are a team that is less talented, I disagree with the assertion that the proper way to prepare for Philadelphia is by resting our starters against Dallas.
We need momentum going into the playoffs.
And here's the other unspoken thing: The Rams are one game back on us. As of now, we have to win three of the last four to get in.
This conversation may wind up being completely moot because we may need a win to get in.
Would anyone have an issue if we need to win against Dallas, play our starters, win and make it to the playoffs?
If so, did we lose our opportunity to win a playoff game because our starters played?
