Discussing the potential future benching og RG3

Yeah, it's definitely not in stone.

Fwiw, which is very little, they then went to the studio where there was an expert there who clarified that it had never happened before.

Still, each case is different.

Barring Cousins sucking.......which I personally feel he's about to lead us to the NFC Championship game, I would bet they exercise a lot of caution with RG3, and would expect him to be out at least two months.

Just read a report on Rotoworld where the guy just basically wrote off RG3's career. Really? C'mon man! We don't even know the extent and people are basically saying he's done here in Washington. Not buying that for a second. We all know RG3 will work his ass off to get back on the field, that's never been a problem of his. I just think it's crazy that so many people have just given this job to Cousins. Makes no sense to me.

Do you remember the Cult of Colt?

Not comparing Cousins to Colt at all. Just comparing the way people react. I agree, it is crazy, but it has happened before and will again....

Both contracts are up this year, right? You can't pay each of them $16 million a year next season.

If that is correct, one of them won't be here.

Me either brother, me either ...

One can call Griffin a lot of things...Fragile doesn't come to mind...Reckless yes, Fragile no...See last season he was bruised and battered every game and kept popping up. That being said if Cousins rips off 6 wins in a row...(that's highly unlikely) but if he does...Griffin is the backup and Cousins is the starter. I'm hoping we get some wins with Cousins at the helm that keep us in the division title race and we end up with both healthy and available to play.

My sentiments exactly.

4 times now I've tried to type a response and fail to come up with a well balanced response. We've seen more of RG so it's easier to comment on his play. I think that for me, we are in a state of unknown with both QB's. We don't know what either brings to the table long term. RG's upside is no longer a factor for me beyond that which pertains to his ability to be a pocket passer. He was looking good yesterday, but he was also running plays in his comfort zone. I want to feel good that his athleticism and intellect will allow him to develop the needed pocket skills. We know he can throw and be accurate. But we're lacking any evidence to suggest he'll overcome deficiencies needed to be a good pocket passer. He's allusive away from the pocket but not inside it.

Kirk, looks much more comfortable in the pocket and right now is the better pocket QB. But that doesn't mean he's going to develop into a great one, or even one you hand the reigns too. Frankly the odds are against it. Anyone might have looked good against that team. He can just as easily fall on his face between now and when RG is healed. So at this point, all I can say is that no one is right or wrong in their opinions as it could go either way. I certainly don't think we can write RG off. This may be the last injury he ever suffers. I do believe that if Kirk lights it up, RG's time here is done. I don't think he'd stay here as a backup and I don't think that would be in the best interest of the team if it was decided Kirk is the future.

In the end, I'm impatient and just want a freaking QB who is efficient and not mistake prone. I have no bias towards either player, though I'd prefer it be RG that develops to what we believe he can. I'd like to see that investment pay off. The worse case scenario is that neither become the QB we need. That would truly suck. So, I'm going to root for whoever the current QB is and hope that in the end, one of them emerges as a good or better NFL QB who can take the reigns for the next 10 or so years. This team has some talent. It has fewer holes to fill than anytime in recent memory. I think it has a competent, and possibly innovative coaching staff. If they can stabilize the QB position, we could be in a position to enjoy our Skins for quite a few years.

Typical PFT garbage. Gruden simply said 'We'll cross that bridge when we come to it'. That's not quite the same as him saying 'I wouldn't rule it out'. What he said was, I'm not answering that question right now.

Why hasn't anyone else asked this question? Do we really need to consider just putting in turf? I love grass fields but seriously, numerous people complaining about the field including Andre's injury.

The turf is fine!

Very typical. I knew as soon as I saw Grudens comments we'd see that kind of garbage.

Did we ban pft with the post stuff? If so my bad and I won't paste them anymore

Nope. We didn't ban anyone - we just decided as a SITE that we aren't going to promote and auto-post the Washington Posts sports feeds any longer. Members are free to link to any Redskins-related articles/content they think might interest someone. I wasn't editorializing on you posting that - I just think it's a good example of how media outlets give subtle twists to what is said to fit their own agenda. Gruden answered that particular question with a wry smile - as if to say 'I see what you're trying to do here and I'm not falling for it'. Factually, I guess that PFT tagline is accurate. He didn't 'rule it out'. But I don't think it means much other than he isn't going to share his plans with reporters.

Kirk, looks much more comfortable in the pocket and right now is the better pocket QB. .

I agree Kirk looks more comfortable but we know from advanced metrics from 2012-13, that Kirk was actually better on rollouts and moving pockets. RG3 was actually better, statistically, from the pocket. That and Kirk's turnover propensity, including preseason where he had some near-INTs sort of clue me in that because someone looks more comfortable doesn't necessarily make them better in that area. Sort of like how RG3 sometimes looks great running but is less elusive a runner than Michael Vick. Vick was just better in that area than RG3, but RG3 is a vastly superior passer.

I think people are getting confused about pocket/running QB definitions and perceptions. What if the reality is that Kirk is better on bootlegs and RG is better with a spread, up-tempo passing offense from the pocket?

I like Kirk so this isn't meant to criticize him but more the perceptions that seem at odds with the facts available.

Eventually the excuses will run out......

"He's not 100% from his injury recovery, and still hobbling"
"He’s rusty from his time off"
"He hasn’t learned the Gruden offense"
"It’s the OL's fault"
"It’s the Defense’s fault"
"The INT's aren't his fault, they're the receivers fault"

McCoy could have used any of those excuses.....

- Even a wounded RG3 is more mobile than a healthy McCoy, but McCoy handled the pass rush better
- McCoy had more reason to be rusty, having not started in 3 years (and nearly 3 years longer than RG3's last start, when RG returned in Minnesota)
- Both RG3 and McCoy started learning the Gruden offense at the same time, and McCoy was actually at a disadvantage, getting far less reps in the offense
- McCoy had the same offensive line, the same defense playing for him, and the same receivers - the same supporting cast, that were supposedly responsible for all of RG3's woes.

So, all in all, McCoy had MORE reasons to use the same excuses given to RG3, yet still that did not stop him from going 2-0, including a prime-time, divisional, road win against the hottest team in the league at that time, while RG3 is 0-3 against 3 of the worst teams in the league, including 7 points of offense against the very worst team (until we took that title). Even Atlanta put up nearly 50 against the Bucs.

I get why it's easy for some fans to continue to support and sympathize for him. Among which, he doesn't make the blatant, glaring, obviously huge mistakes that Cousins does. But rather, he makes subtle mistakes on a consistent basis, that stall drives, and limit the team. So it's easy to be lulled into defending him, sympathizing with him, and placing the blame elsewhere. Besides the subtle mistakes, it's easy to fall in love with him for his athletic traits, his bad luck breaks with injuries, etc. But he just isn't an NFL-calibre QB. Can't make the right decisions or quick decisions, or the right reads, keep composure and poise, handle pressure. He is just way too antsy in the pocket, to put his brain in position to do the right thing. And that hasn't changed over a long period. When other players on the team make mistakes, that doesn't remove accountability from the QB making his own repeated mistakes.

Griffin was unable to practice or throw for an extended period Fear. That's not the same thing as being healthy but not getting time with the starters. Griffin couldn't throw or practice at all. Comparing the two things is pretty ridiculous. We almost always save our best effort for the Cowboys, just like we will at the end of the season (regardless of who the QB is by then). Griffin's INT's yesterday WERE the fault of the WRs - that isn't always the case but it is a team game and he needs better play all around him to be successful. I like McCoy, but taking a one and a half game sample size and arguing he should be starter over a former Heisman winner who has an NFC East championship under his belt (regardless of how sucky he is playing right now) is a pretty tough sell in my book.

What I see from fans is the same lack of patience they have gutted Snyder and this team for, for decades. Griffin needs more time. He deserves more time. And Colt McCoy is and has been a career backup. You don't have to like it, but the facts say it's so.

Griffin's INT's yesterday WERE the fault of the WRs

No - that 2nd INT was tipped by a Buc, and not by a Redskin (totally unlike the first INT)
It was touched by 2 Bucs, and zero Redskins......initially tipped by a Buc who was nowhere near the intended receiver.
Therefore, that INT is definitely on RG - so the Pick 7 is on him, and the momentum swing is on him, and the loss.
