DHall Signed to 1 Year Contract

D Hall via CSN

“There’s no way we could be good and compete and get some other contracts done that we needed to get done with me making this kind of money,” Hall said. “We both knew it. We couldn’t agree to anything from the jump, so they had to do what they had to do, which was release me.”

During his two-plus weeks on the free market, Hall received some interest from other teams. But he ultimately chose to return to Washington because of, as he put it, his desire to remain in a tight-knit locker room and with a coaching staff he believes in.

Nnamdi Asomugha to the Niners for one year, 1.35 million. No money guaranteed.

Good God. Amazing deal. Low risk, big upside.

Naw, I'm of the opinion that Nnamdi is done. He could be good in a 3rd/4th CB role, but he's no longer the shut-down guy he was in Oakland. We shall see though, I suppose.

Not to disagreeand fully with you lanky, but he is back in the bay and on a winning team.

I dont know how the hell they're signing all these guys though.

Could definitely make a difference - always easier to look good on a strong defense.

We're still in the FA part of the off season, the draft is coming up and we do need to put some sort of a team on the field.... these signings allow us to do that.

We all knew that fresh FA pickin's would be slim this off season and the draft sans a first rounder, limited options.

Shanny has touted competition at all positions ('cept maybe QB) so getting our own familiar vets back and a few new guys in the mix is what they're doing....if a new player outshines our "old" continuity guys then they'll be out of here or go to backup.

Hall and Davis might pan out or not.... one year contracts tend to be very sobering. Either way, no harm in having them here to compete and if they beat out anyone else we manage to bring in then so be it.

I was wondering how does a team decide whether to cut a player in hopes that he returns for a lesser salary, or to just approach him directly and ask him to take a pay cut without actually releasing him ?

Legally they have to honor it, unless it's mutually agreed upon paycut, I assume.
Would it be correct to assume, that anytime a player is cut that they hope to re-sign at a lower amount, that the team has always already approached him with a request to take a pay cut, which he initially declined, before then being cut ?

bringing back DHall is a good signing. He wants to be here - in fact stated that he and Haynesworth were part oft he reason the Skins got into cap *ell. says he loves playing fr Shanahan. seems to me he knows he's on the downside and wants to finish out with a team and organization - in an area he played college ball in - he feels comfortable with.

now comes the sustained performance part. the etam still needs to tend to long term health at the CB position. but given the cap circumstances, this and the Davis signings are very good work IMO.

We could've done a lot worse, I'm a ok with this.

If Hall truly is part of the "tight-knit locker room," and the rest of the D doesn't have a problem with him, then I guess I'm cool with it. He definitely needs to check his temper at the door this time though, and stop with the ridiculous tantrums at the end of games. Hopefully we'll be winning a lot more, so he won't be as upset all the time. :)

I like the move

as has been said on this thread we need competition for place we are slowly getting there.

agree........

If we cut Wilson how much does that clear to sign Winfield?

Correct me if I am wrong here but isn't cutting a 28 year old player in favor of a 35 year old player totally counter to what you have been preaching for years?

I gotta say, I'm not as enamored with Winfield as some here are. I think at this point he'd be a third CB, not a starter, so if we bring him in I hope it's for depth and not to replace one of the top two spots.

As has been previously noted, we really need to find us some safeties.

Those who are clammoring to cut Wilson, personally I think you're off base. My two cents say that with improved safety play (can it get much worse?) and more pressure from a healthy (we hope) Rak and Carriker, I think we see a better CB crew in general. It's not a good thing at all that our D is so dependant on one player (Rak) getting pressure, but building depth and getting quality starters will take some time.

Once we start getting pressure and our safeties figure out how to switch and cover deep, I have a feeling our secondary will be greatly improved. Our defense may improve greatly just by dint of getting healthy.

EDIT: That's not to say Wilson can't be improved upon, simply that if he is our 2nd or 3rd corner, getting some pressure in will help him immensely.

Yeah, I'm with Henry on this one. A 35 year-old CB? Not what I want to see, especially at the expense of a 28 year-old, even a subpar one. I just don't see Winfield contributing much.

I rate this move 3 beans out of 5. Got him back at a huge paycut and don't believe he is half as bad as advertised.
