ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Browns interviewed Commanders run game coordinator and Anthony Lynn for their head coaching vacancy on Saturday.
Lynn met with the Cleveland brass on Saturday night in Florida. He spoke with the Bills about their head coaching vacancy earlier in the day. Lynn spent four years as the Chargers’ head coach, going 33-31 with one playoff victory. He worked in Detroit as their OC for a year after that. Lynn is respected in league circles but doesn’t fit the archetype of the young offensive wunerdkind that most teams are looking for these days. Still, he could get a second chance at leading a team, particularly in Cleveland, where several candidates have already pulled out of the running

If Lynn goes to Cleveland that'd be a beautiful thing draft pick wise. We'd get their #70 (3rd round pick) as we hold the #71 pick, back-to-back picks and then their 3rd rounder next year too.

I guess if you’re Lynn you have to take every opportunity as you get older and it looks less and less likely you’ll get your shot again…but I’m almost a little disappointed that he took the Cleveland interview tbh.

Cleveland was in a VERY weird spot where bc McDaniel (and maybe someone else?) turned them down late, they were still not Rooney Rule compliant halfway through their second round of interviews and had to start adding new people to their list in order to comply. So anyone getting that call had to know what the pretense was. That can’t be easy on the ego, but for me I just wish those dummies in Cleveland weren’t bailed out. Clown show.

No, I don’t think we get their picks. We just get awarded two picks at the end of the third round. if they had to give up two of their own pics, zero chance they would ever hire him.

In some way, shape or form, they're going to have to account for almost $130m Deshawn Watson on the cap over the next several years. And unless they do something to renegotiate it, $80m this year.

I'd let somebody else handle that debacle and then take over after somebody gets fired for not being able to make it work with 1/4 of the cap going to a player who can't play. Especially if I was Lynn, who probably won't get another shot if he got hired in Cleveland and failed.

I get why. I think the horrible job he did in Detroit (eventually getting fired midseason a few years ago and getting replaced by Ben Johnson) ended his career as an OC in the NFL.

However, if a team sees him as a CEO head coach, he did finish with over a 500 record and is respected as a leader around the league. If you are the Browns where no one with any sort of heat wants to go there, this is the the type of guy you end up with. Remember the Texans hiring David Culley and Lovie Smith back to back

Browns are right down there with Titans and Cardinals. Lousy ownership and front offices cast these teams as traditional dumpster fires.

Now they have Myles Garrett at 31 on a long-term contract when they are in rebuild mode. Would have been smarter to trade his rights and get a top pick to use in the rebuild.

Instead they thought Joe Flacco was going to continue a renaissance at 39?

How so?

I read he is really focused on getting better and the article made it sound like he trains a lot individually. Some of these older talented guys are actually not good coaches; the one article made it sound that way.

I swore that I've seen interviews with numerous players and coaches talking about how helpful Ertz has been with the other TE's. And yes, There was talk of how intense his mental and physical training and studying is which also rubs off on the people around him.

On the defensive side of the ball, absolutely would approach Wagner about that.

The same would go with Von Miller who initially sounded like he wanted to come back to Washington. Later I believe he mentioned wanting to go back to Denver to play one more year. I can't blame him there. I however don't think he has interest in coaching even though he'd do an excellent job.

I would prefer not to take a job I knew I couldn't succeed at. Regardless of the money. It's overly stressful and not worth it. He's got a good life, if he stays a position coach or something, he'll make good money and stay coaching. Taking a job that you are going to fail at, in sports or life, is a really bad idea.

The thing is, Lovie Smith was actually a really good hire for the Texans, because he brought stability and allowed them to clean house and reset the deck. Anthony Lynn is 10 years younger than Lovie. He'd be younger than Lovie was when he took the Texans job.

If that's what you want, to just go in and manage the team while it implodes to re-set, that's fine if it's literally your last coaching gig. If Lynn wanted to do that and retire, great, one last good pay day.

If he actually wants to succeed and keep coaching, it's a really bad idea.
