I am just giving the snarky counter viewpoint. I have no idea whether this works out or blows up. I think it's a bit of a Hail Mary move given how tenuous Quinn's standing has to be viewed after gutting his own coordinators after 2 seasons.

I don't think you can separate the hire from the circumstances that necessitated it. We let a highly regarded extremely experienced OC walk because Dan Quinn couldn't convince him to operate the way he thought he should.

Replacing him with a virtual unknown is a pucker factor 10 move.

Might work out, but I wouldn't bet my 401 K on it.

Quinn with his relationship with McDaniel I presume got heads up that he wasn't coming to Washington for whatever reason, to me what happens with McDaniel now is especially interesting.

In a vacuum, I don't think elevating any candidate internally is ever exciting. More exciting to import someone from elsewhere. Heck digesting some of the Lion fans sentiments about hiring Blough via X and the Internet, there seemed to be more enthusiasm from them albiet not from everyone.

Risky hire. Quinn's rolling the dice. I am not underwhelmed considering his upside. I am not excited also because the upside is unknown. But I don't find the hire boring either because the upside is intriguing.

Quinn is likely either going to get the last laugh or will look like a fool. If you forced me to bet on it, I'd bet that this will succeed but I wouldn't put my 401K on it either.

Quinn might be a bit confident, maybe overconfident on making a call like this. When he hired Kyle, he wasn't hot in demand. And he had some of those same all star assistants in Atlanta that Washington did. I gather he trusts his eye as to knowing rising offensive stars.

I don't know. The one thing I like about this off season is its gutsy. Do I trust Quinn's version of gutsy. lol, don't know. But one thing I like that they aren't doubling down on status quo.

I get the sense from Keim's podcasts that this regime gets it needs to be more aggressive as to upgrading personnel.

At a minimum it feels like they are willing to take some chances. I suspect McDaniel tipped Quinn off that he's not coming here. When Keim mentioned this morning its McDaniel or Blough I took it seriously. But I take the McDaniel part seriously too so I am guessing maybe he was tipped off that he was likely to get a HC or preferred another job.

To me a boring hire would be Bevell. He coached in Seattle when Quinn was there or something like that.

Blough both in Detriot and here is known for adding inventive trick plays. It's one of the calling cards for Ben Johnson. At a minimum I doubt Blough's offenses will be boring.

I'm personally excited to see how this works out. It COULD blow up in his face, but this fanbase has been spending the last 10 years pointing back to the amount of talent we had in house under an offensive coordinator that didn't sniff the results we had 2 years ago WITH THAT STAFF. We've pined over the idea of having young, up and coming talent, in the building and letting it walk away to go on to bigger and better things.

I also won't crucify Quinn just yet. Having Blough be your OC may be the best case scenario currently with the development of Jayden. Instead of re-inventing the playbook, you now have your OC working a new playbook with the same language your QB already knows. In reality, I kinda give Quinn credit. Instead of attacking a desperation OC that's out there and available, it looks like he's prioritizing Jayden over himself. Of course I was excited at the idea of McDaniel, but there is a benefit to now, Blough and Jayden being able to be on the phone TONIGHT, looking at the direction of the offense. Not having to wait weeks to 'see' if McDaniel is going to get a HC job, or is ultimately going to be coming here.

This is a risky pick on Quinn's part, but when you make a move like this and it works, everyone remembers. When you make a move like this and it doesnt... everyone forgets.

Somebody suggested Jayden’s college OC earlier and was mocked for it because he had no pro experience. Instead we chose a guy with no experience whatsoever.

Maybe the Lions were really interested or maybe they just bluffed us so they could get MM.

I don't see a lot of 'anti-Blough' posts. It is a risky pick though. That's just an obvious point that is being made. The guy is quite literally an unknown. Doesn't mean he'll fail, but he has zero record to base either confidence or doom on.

We also dont know how many people he asked to speak with that said no thanks. Quinn could be on the chopping block next season. And people dont want to stake their futures on that.

We don't know about JD. Maybe. It only speaks volumes if we trust Quinn as some sort of hiring guru. And I'd be lying if I said I did trust him to that level. I don't distrust him either. I am Switzerland right now as to Dan Quinn.

I am shocked at some of these moves -- and in one sense I like being shocked, I hate complacency, but firing Kliff for Blough is a bit wild -- not an exciting wild for me, but I'll give Quinn credit for being bold.

Impossible to know if this is a home run hire or not. It's like watching a trailer and rating the movie purely on that.

I can’t explain why, but this move gives me less confidence in Quinn. It feels lazy. But, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that it’s a good decision. It just feels so underwhelming.
