If I'm blough, I'd rather coach a young Jayden than I would Goff who is actually older than Blough. He may not fully listen to him. I would also rather coach under DQ who seems to be hands off while Campbell is quick to make changes, make his influence known, and quick to have input.

The bar is also set extremely high in Detroit as they have already had a lot of offensive success when after this past season, you should only go up in Washington. He won't get a ton of credit if Detroit plays well. People will say that they are ready made, successful veterans, and Campbell may have helped with the play calls.

Here he will get a ton of credit if Jayden bounces back, if he's under center more and playing well. Everyone will know that DQ is not calling any plays, etc. Plus you are already here and know the roster. I would also rather live in the DMV than I would Detroit (no offense to anyone.. Lol)

I've been sitting here listening to these knuckle heads :ROFLMAO: (Grant & Danny) and Grant does bring up some good points. McDaniel is a 1-year rental. McDaniel could take weeks to make a decision and Blough would probably be gone. Blough is 2-3 year rental if he succeeds. Blough would be able to adopt a playbook from 3 different offenses and make it hard on defenses initially. He's also already familiar with JD, his work habits, etc. they have a really good relationship.

Blough is only gone if he gets an OC job. Have we gotten reports that anyone other than the Lions (besides us) are interviewing him? Because the Lions also want McDaniel, so they’re also waiting.

So where’s the danger that Blough is going to get stolen away? Unless Kliff gets a HC job and makes Blough the OC (feels unlikely).

Maybe I’ve missed reports of Blough receiving other interviews, though.

This is also ignoring that Quinn can just chat informally with McDaniel on the phone to see where he’s at. They have a personal relationship, we aren’t flying completely blind and relying on reading between the lines of agent-speak here.

If we give the job to Blough before McDaniel officially has a home, it’ll be because he told Quinn he’s got a job lined up. It won’t just be a guess on Quinn’s part. So…the question is, does ignoring every realistic candidate who isn’t McDaniel or Blough make Quinn look smart? We’ll find out.

I feel the same. I do think it’s a slightly unique situation though w/ Campbell having worked with him before and having taken over playcalling duties this year. And unlike us, it alleviates the pressure on Blough to succeed (right out of the gate or even long term).

Does it? They just fired their current OC after one season on the job, and after their NFCCG appearance two years ago the Lions org has higher expectations, that if unmet, cause some uncomfortable questions about Campbell’s viability without his stolen coordinators.

Blough hitching his wagon to a bounce back year for Daniels feels a lot more feasible. He can get buzz around the league even if the team loses due to a bad defense, because he’d be working with a young QB.

But again, I don’t think Blough is the Lions top option right now so they’re also waiting to see what McDaniel (and possibly others) does.

Allbright’s pretty plugged in, doesn’t seem to see McDaniel as a frontrunner for any of these jobs right now

Edit: he seems to have omitted TEN here though, and they’re interviewing McDaniel next Wednesday. Could see him as an option to develop Ward there.

It is hard to see him get another HC right now but a decent offensive minded HC is what people want and they are few and far in between. He is similar to Kliffy only better and he is getting some looks

Hearing the name of all the hot candidates makes me wonder if Kliff or Kliff's agent misplayed his hand or overestimated his value.

Sure would be sweet to see his possibilities dwindle leaving him wish he stayed here in his nice warm seat with Jayden, our good OL and new weapons on the way. He would have just needed to call some more running plays and make the calls less predictable. He would have been the hot commodity next year when his contract was up.

I find it interesting that Keim says Blough and then McDaniel are the top candidates, IHO. That wording makes one think Blough is the guy. Hmmm.... McDaniel is scheduled to interview with the Titans. Dominoes are going to start falling with other teams interviewing for positions coaches and head coaches. I now think our new OC will be Blough in the next day or two. JMO. Now, we need to find a good OL coach and Wells will not be allowed to come to Washington as an OL coach as it would be a later move essentially.

Serious question, if you were a FA (or a FA agent) Would you want to come to Wash and play for an unknown OC who may or may not play to your strengths? MM would draw some serious attention as an OC, especially those who have thrived in his system. Blough is an interesting option, but he has no history that should be attractive to a FA. This year we especially have to be aggressive via free agency to fill a lot of holes and you have to at least consider how attractive this offense might be to a FA who'd like to earn a 2nd contract down the road. The consensus here is McDaniel is choice #1, but if we can't get him should we pause on Blough? At least in Det you'd have a playcalling offense that you'd be familiar with. Food for thought

I can't see DQ not pausing on Blough being named OC. It means his future is hitched to Bloughs year one performance as an OC.

I expect a more known play calling commodity.

That's the billion-dollar question that DQ must figure out. Both he and AP have a lot of work to do. DQ finding an OC and DC and AP building an old roster into a young one. I would think that DQ has spoken with MM several times about coming here but MM is going to take a HC if one is made available to him and we stand to lose Blough if we wait on MM's decision. With JD being fond of Blough and Blough having experience with KK, Ben Johnson and Kevin O Connell, it could work. Does DQ pull the trigger on Blough?

Serious answer.

I think it depends on if I believe in Daniels. If I think that the 2024 version of Daniels was the truth and 2025 was just a year where everything went wrong then I'd be all for coming here. After all, Quinn's rep as a player's coach is still intact, the team still fought 'til the end. If people wanted to be a part of the Quinn culture and team a year ago that hasn't changed.

I don't know that anyone came here for Kingsbury and Whitt. They did come here because they thought they had a chance to win here, but mostly they came here because our money was green. Also, the gravitational pull of that amazing 2024 didn't really net many free agent discount bargains. The rumor that players would flock here didn't really mirror what we saw in reality. In fact, you could make the argument that 2025's free agent crop was not only poorer in play, but also in pedigree.

Who was 2025's Eckeler, Ertz, Wagner, or Luvu? All those players were once greats who came here for their last hurrah with the exception of Luvu who was seen as an ascending player. The 2025 crop were also gray beards, but many of them were journeymen even in their primes. So, I don't think anything has really changed in terms of Washington as a desired destination.

This feels like a situation that could backfire spectacularly if DQ waits too long. And also feels like teams in need of HC/coordinator are throwing smoke screens interms of who they're really after. I would think MM is on pretty much alot of teams' radars. I would hope we aren't sitting around in a wait and see mode, otherwise we're going to be very disappointed.

HTTR!

More and more, I feel McDaniel gets a HC job. Just not the Giants please. If I had to guess/hope:

Ravens - Stefanski
Dolphins - Harbaugh
Falcons - McDaniel
Browns - Who cares?
Raiders - Fired in 2 years anyway
Giants - Someone who sucks
Very worried about Harbs or Stefanski going to the Giants.

I strongly agree with this. With all the openings this year, you better be decisive and quick if you want to get your man. I'd love to hear an announcement before the Super Bowl. Heck, even faster than that if possible.

Im not necessarily worried about the Giants. I just don't think they're a major player for Harbaugh or Stefanski. Not sold on their QB (sure others may disagree) but they have some damned good pieces on D. But right now that team is poorly run and I don't think is as appealing as the talking heads would have us believe.

Schoen may be the issue. They will throw the kitchen sink and more at Harbaugh if he's there's target. I think they would fire Schoen and hire whoever Harbaugh wanted as their GM. You may want to rethink that. Just saying. :)

I hadn't noticed this posted prior:

Lions and Commanders scheduled interviews with Ravens QB coach Tee Martin for their offensive coordinator vacancies next week.
Per Jordan Schultz, “has done extensive work for Baltimore’s passing game as a whole” over the last three seasons, “helping propel Lamar Jackson to the 2023 NFL MVP.” Martin coach the Ravens’ wide receivers in the two prior seasons. These are the first reported interviews scheduled for Martin this offseason.

Commanders hired David Blough as offensive coordinator.

WOW
