David Blough and the Offensive Staffing Thread

How do you feel about the Blough hire?

I know the discussion has moved on to specifics of the OC hire. But going back to KK's departure I totally believe it was Peters (and possibly Harris) who forced the change on Quinn. I also believe Quinn resisted and KK is the source of the leaks as they have been totally buttoned up on that department and KK is trying to make himself look good.

Now we have the issue of the front office meddling which is all over the internet. Didn't Baltimore meddle if the reports are true that Harbaugh was released because he refused to fire his coordinator? I'm fine with these changes, I definitely did not want to run it back with the same coaches. We seem to get outcoached and outschemed a lot this season.

I think the succession plan with Kliff was Tavita Pritchard. Once he got the Stanford gig, they were left a bit high and dry. Listening to Mark Bullock on Standig podcast, he complained that Quinn was very worried about having a succession plan in place for OC and now he is right back where he was in Atlanta with no OC and no legitimate heir apparent in house.

I thought that was supposed to be the guy from the Eagles? I wonder if Quinn changed his mind about him.

There’s no evidence that this is not what Quinn wanted. There’s plenty of evidence that this IS what he wanted. Choosing to believe one national reporter (Schultz) who gets his leaks from unhappy agents over the reliable local beat reporter (Keim) who never reports anything he isn’t 100% sure about, that’s your choice. But Keim without reservation says this was Quinn’s call and Quinn was unhappy with Kliff.

I think you’re correct that we can assume that Kliff was unhappy as well, and is unhappy now as he has to explain why things didn’t work out in his HC interviews, instead of appearing to be in a good situation with leverage. His agent is definitely the source of those leaks, which as you say, otherwise are pretty rare in this organization nowadays. McLaurin + Kliff’s agents are the only sour leaks we’ve had since Harris bought the team. And both times the leaks were petulant and malicious, and crafted for a purpose to create a national narrative.

I just stumbled on the tweet below, and it made me think, while I get the idea that Quinn wouldn't have the guts to do it, I think he does have the guts to do it. I am not saying that its good that he has the guts to do it. In his shoes, I'd go proven. But if he fires Kliff for the QB coach, its a wild risk if the idea is 2026 or bust.

For me, I'd let it play out but I wouldn't distrust it or trust it. Only thing I like about Quinn's lets get nuts version of the off season so far is I think its a preview of an aggressive FA season -- or am hoping.

I get ya and what you are saying. This is just my opinion but DQ must hit on the OC and for that matter DC hires. If he doesn't, I think he's toast. Again, JMO. Yes, things have to play themselves out. Thanks as always for your insight and input, SIP. :)
 
Per Keim and skinsinparadise you and I like the guy's posts and as you mentioned:

This tweet is basically a Keim follower and he has cut/pasted Keim info to his tweet. I like it but personally am not a Morris fan as DC but whatever happens, happens.

Give me McDaniel #1, if not Blough as OC
Give me Ulbrich #1, if not then Graham as DC

As is stands at this point. It can all change in a hot minute though.

Well if Keim is saying this then I feel a lot better about it. But there was plenty of evidence that this was forced in the form of reporting and that's how we get most of our information. Bit this is good news as I do trust Keim.

I think it’s worth reiterating something that’s been mentioned - Blough wouldn’t automatically represent a part deux of the Kingsbury offense given his experience with different schemes.

On top of that, it wouldn’t be all that difficult to do thing like:
Switch up the run game a bit (orienting it to fitting our personnel)
To chunk out hurry up plays by personnel grouping (taking care of the delayed defensive subs)
Reducing the qb run plays
Committing to the run a bit more
Adding to/tweaking the offense, including more motion, under center looks, etc, because you’re able to keep the bulk of the offense in place (thereby taking advantage of Daniels’ familiarity with it).

I’m not advocating for Blough here ^, just saying there’s some (added) nuance/context.

Terrell was a WR coach here in 2021.

We are interviewing some obsure candidates, at least what's been leaked.
