David Blough and the Offensive Staffing Thread

How do you feel about the Blough hire?

TE coach to OC for a team looking to further develop a franchise quarterback in critical Year 3?

I don't know if this is the time to go with a guy for whom this job is that much of a promotion. I was thinking of a passing game coordinator with several years in a more visible role with the WRs and backs.
 
Just hire MM pronto.
 
This team seems to be a step slow off the blocks when it comes to hiring coaches.

We fire them quickly enough but the 'due diligence' seems to last just long enough for other teams to swoop up the best candidates and we are left picking from the bargain bin.

We had to know as an organization we were going to fire Whitt for WEEKS. And most likely Kingsbury as well.

Need to move with a bit more aggressiveness.

Blough, the Cowboys guy, etc… might do great. They may be really good coaches. I have nothing against those guys and I hope they get plenty of great chances. Coaching is a tough profession and you can’t make an impact without a chance.

But hiring either of them would feel like we took a significant step back over someone’s ego.

Would be very disappointing.

That said, this is likely due diligence.

I’d be instantly out on this regime, and would just start counting the days till the reset.

That said, we should absolutely interview Blough, because the Lions are. And it’s a very bad look not to give your own guy in the building an interview for the job when someone else will.

But he should not be the hire.
 
Peters should know better.

And if Quinn doesn't seem to have control over the situation, then AP like Roseman in Philly needs to step in and make some decisions.

What I foresee if they hire him is instant fan disappointment but ownership and the FO will commission puff pieces from Keim, Nicki and some ofhte other local media and get shoutouts from the national personalities that we kept the next McVay in house. Give it a few weeks and most of the fanbase will eat it up.

Now, if Blough were to get off to a slow start, he would have less of a leash with the fanbase than with a more proven option such as McDaniel or Stefanski

I've been listening to him, I don't get the sense that he thinks this is some slam dunk thing that will take place but he seems to think they might want to please Jayden and give him someone he knows and Blough of course fits that.
 
Marcus Mariota as OC is a new one here. I'd rather have MMcD myself.

I don’t know if Wells is any good, I wouldn’t scoff at going from TE coach to offensive coordinator. This guy did it pretty well and has now become one of the best coaches in the NFL.
