Rooney Rule doesn't apply to McDaniel. He's minority as he is biracial.

He's Bi-winning, he wins here and he wins there...

I am pretty sure I remember Dan Synder getting in trouble when they hired Eric Bieniemy because the organization did not comply with the Rooney rule because they thought it didn't apply because they hired a black candidate, but the rule did actually apply. I want to say Dan got off with a warning.

Edit: I think I remember incorrectly--it may have been when they hired Rivera.

I'd be stunned if Mike McDaniel became OC for another team. Only way I can see that happening is if DQ didn't want him as OC and I can't see that happening. :)

Besides us all drooling for MM over here, has there been any confirmation that we have even go so far as to schedule a meeting with him yet?

Kudos to the Lions for moving fast. Blough and McDaniel already contacted.
When we missed on Macondald, one of his comments in the recaps of how it all went down stuck out, he said he liked how the Seahawks seemed very efficient (can't remember the exact word but it seemed like it related to speed) in their decision making. It seemed like he was doing that PC thing, where you don't criticize, but you do list the positive of the one side that contrasted against the other side (meaning, we were inefficient). It was Seahawks and Commanders looking at that point.

I would hope they are moving fast with someone like Mcdaniel, who has all this interest but they know really well. Unless they just don't want him, but the ONLY way that could be possible is if they have an idea of promoting within. That to me would be a big mistake though, and I think a lot of the beat guys have said is at the LEAST unlikely.

Yeah, it seems in the modern NFL due diligence is for suckers. AP conducted a very careful, slow search (I still think it was because he was waiting on Ben Johnson) but by the time he Johnson told him "no" most of the hot candidates had been taken.

I think you have to do your due diligence in November and strike as close to day one as possible.

It is hard not to feel a little late to the party as we continue to see interviews being set up by all the other teams. I know...it is only a few days in but still, it is about the reminiscent of two years ago

Jeff Darlington on NFL Live reported he's been texting with McDaniel and he's ready to get back in to a coaching job. Darlington said he's gotten several OC related requests to interview but may get some HC interviews as well.

More from Jeff Darlington on texts with McDaniel later in the NFL Live broadcast -

- Pretty fired up about whats coming next
- Said he feels like he got a shot of steriods to his football mind
- Feels ready and it's "on"

Darlington said Browns might be interested in bringing him in for HC interview but more interest in OC jobs. Darlington thinks he's better suited right now just to be an OC. He doesn't think he should just take any HC job.

Schrager thinks he should go for an OC job and finds it more interesting where he goes then other HC candidates.

Orlovsky reiterated Washington should not let him out of the building! Said he's the best offensive mind out there and would be insane with Jayden Daniels.

If he comes in then the question is would we keep Deebo. I think Deebo will actually take less money to stay here because he pretty much likes McDaniel more than any coach in the NFL as he got 1700 yards and 14tds in 2021 under him. I think that we will let him go but I could see us keeping him on a discount, for a year at least

I was kind of thinking about the same thing because Deebo is the kind of player that the McDaniels offense thrives on... but then we have the age and injury thing?

Problem is... with 8HC vacancies means that there are essentially 16 coordinator positions hires. (8 on each side) With Quinn being a lame duck and even with the potential to coach JD, Wash is one of the last destinations on the list.
Not much excitement on O other than JD that has health issues. One very good WR over 30 and not much else. No TE, No #2 WR worth a damn, (debo might not even stay on the team) and questionable Rbs with few draft picks remaining.
Worst D in the NFL needing a complete rebuild

Hope i am wrong
This is my thinking as well. The bucs also fired their OC and there’s a real good chance if the eagles are one and done they’ll be searching as well. Also, the lions as has been posted. We may make the most sense as far as connections, but some of these other teams may be better fits. The bucs are right down the road for him and the lions and eagles are stacked. I’m tempering my own expectations and am thinking we end up with someone less exciting.

He got 1400 yards in 2001 because he was 5 years younger and a step quicker.

Why not?

If the NFL has proven anything, it's that whispers happen all the time. Guys 'know' things they aren't supposed to a lot. It's like the mafia, where almost everyone is connected through some level, and if Russini and company were able to identify that Kliff was on the outs, not sure why it's too far fetched to believe that the same type of information was drifting around out there regarding McDaniel.

Primarily because I think they were going to keep him until Harbaugh came available.
