Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

If anybody wants a great listen, the guy Galdi had on his podcast Greg Beecham who has covered the rams and USC was great.

I think Galdi also played the entire clip of Aaron Donald waving poetic about Eric Henderson.

Really good stuff. I’d had to listen again to summarize, which might do layer. But it was a great listen.
 
McVay to me is a bit like the Gibbs of this generation, he takes a flawed Jared Goff to a Super Bowl and then gets Stafford and goes back to another one 2-3 years later and wins it.

He also hires good young coaches like LaFleur that get picked off the vine early.

Even ole Raheem Morris was made to look so outstanding after 2021-22 that he got the Atlanta job, etc.

Ehh I don't know if I like that comparison.

Gibbs was the master at turning chicken shit into chicken soup.

If he had a quarterback like Goff he would have ridden him to 5 superbowls.

Can you imagine if Dan marino had fallen one more spot, my god it would've been a patriots level dynasty.

I dunno about that. I think that’s fairly dismissive of a lot of outstanding players on those teams.

And Thiesman was a top QB in the early 80’s. Ryp was fantastic for 2 or so years.

Nah, Ryp was fantastic for one year, but what a year. He was above average one other time in his career. He always had an unreal receiving corps too. I believe he had a trio of 1,000 yard receivers, which is really rare even to this day. Sanders, Clark, and Monk.

Likewise Thiesman was good once. One time. He happened to be not just good but elite that one year. MVP.

The best part of Thiesman was him playing up in the playoffs. Besides his MVP year, he was not good, except in the playoffs. The first year in the playoffs however (context stats) while he was great, his life was made so easy by the team leaning so heavily on Riggins. Who by the way might have set an unbreakable playoff record in that same playoff run. He averaged over 150 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD each game. I believe nobody else has come within 100 yards of that playoff record but could be wrong.

Like Saquon was dominant in the Eagles most recent Super Bowl run, but he was still 111 rushing yards shy of Riggins.

You guys may have noticed, we are trying to reign in the random posting in threads that have nothing to do with the thread topic. I'm just using this as an example of a post that has nothing to do with the thread topic and is followed by more posts that have nothing to do with the thread topic.

We don't want to stifle conversation. We also don't want every thread to turn into a random chat session.
 
Commanders have a news conference Tuesday to introduce the new coaches. I expected more defensive staff would have been announced by today. I wonder if any are on one of the super bowl teams.

Yes- the stated reason for the delay was apparently to get staffs together
 
My understanding is that the PC will be introduction of the coordinators not the totality of the coaching staffs. So Quinn with Blough and Jones.

That is true but it had been mentioned from different places that there was an expectation they have most if not the full staff would be discussed. I can't recall where else besides Keim that I had heard that but there was a few sources
 
What positions are still open?
 
As you mentioned DWinzit, I expect we will know much more after the conference tomorrow. I will be curious as most on here about Donatell's fate.

I find the part about Tunsil’s contract situation possibly going smoother than Terry interesting. Makes sense to me because I feel like most of the blame goes to Terry’s agent who encouraged him to hold out for maximum leverage, regardless of how it affected team chemistry and Terry’s ability to get ready for the season. Maybe I’m letting Terry off the hook too easily, but I feel like he was a victim of his agent’s greed and got some bad advice. I’ll be interested to hear what Keim has to say about the LT situation being wrapped up in a timely manner.

I remember when everyone was pretty confident that Terry's contract would be handled easily. After 2024, the team was sky high and Terry had probably the best season of his career. Everything was looking up and the team was glowing about him and said that they looked forward to bringing him back.

Then... it all went wonky.

Tunsil has all but promised he wants to go wonky. We know he wants a HUGE deal. What we don't know what that means in his mind compared to what it means in the Commanders' minds.
 
I would be surprised if AP has any media availability prior to the conclusion of the initial FA sweepstakes. I don’t see any value in him doing so.
 
In Keim's most recent Pod, he mentioned they are waiting to see what happens to Brian Johnson which kind of tells me that if he gets another job, he's gone and if not, he stays. I'm indifferent but if BJ leaves I personally would look to replace him with someone like Darrell Bevell but I believe the offensive staff is pretty set outside of that.

Also, ref Tunsil Keim said he's looking for something before FA. I imagine they'll try to get it done so the salary cap is set and after releases like Lattimore, etc which sounds like a done deal.
