Not to be too conspiratorial, but just maybe Flores sees that Quinn is on the hot seat and if Washington disappoints but he makes this defense solid to even average he will be right here to take over

Depending on the rest of the staff if he brings in, if Quinn goes 1-5 to start the season, Flores would be the logical choice to take over as interim HC

I figure a large portion of his interview was just his background and friendship with DQ. I mean that gets him in the door on the interview probably mainly with DQ, right?

It feels like with SO many head coaching vacancies that someone surely would want a guy like Flores. I get he has a lawsuit against the NFL, but would that really deter a franchise from hiring him? I actually think him being a defensive coach is a bigger factor not in his favor. Washington should be prepared to set a record for DC pay to get him if he's not named a head coach.

The question is - can we afford to wait on him knowing the end result if we don't get him is picking through what's left by that time.

It depends on who they really want at DC. If they have one or candidates the covet, they need to play the waiting game like the candidates are doing. The positions should begin shaking out by early next week but some may take much longer if candidates teams reach the SB

Would feel quite damning to have had Flores(we all agree basically no shot) and Gannon in here just to wind up with Morris, Graham, or Wilson.

Doesn’t feel like championship caliber hires are taking place at all to me. That’s on Peters.

Well to be fair I did say “basically” no shot. Anything can happen. The point is when we wind up with one of these other 3 less inspiring coaches it will be time to ask some very difficult questions. Personally, I think it’s already time.

I still think that Quinn wants to reunite with Aden Durde and is waiting for the Seahawks to wrap up their season. Of course that only works, like with Flores, if Durde doesn't land a HC gig. He's already interviewed with Atlanta for their HC spot, and Pittsburgh allegedly also wants to interview him. I'm also curious whether Atlanta would be able to keep Ulbrich if they hired a current DC like Durde instead of him as HC.

I'm hoping Keim's about the team waiting for Ulbricht and Mehrris was more the former than the latter. Of the people we've interviewed, Mehrris would be my least favorite, and that includes Seattle's DB coach/DPGC

I'm 100% with you.

I'm on record as believing that starting over in season 3 with new coordinators coming off a 5 win season is pretty much a disaster. Doesn't mean they can't overcome it - but you'd better get these replacements right. Short of a home run on both sides of the ball I think Quinn (and maybe even AP) may be in big trouble in the next couple of years.

Everyone knows you don't turn down an interview...unless it's Dan Snyder or the Jets. Even then, you never know if someone you meet with ends up running another team.

That's not accurate at all. He's already a DC - not like he's some assistant somewhere who needs interview experience or to create 'ties'. Guys like Flores absolutely choose who they do and don't interview with.
