Quinn is on the hot seat no matter what. Flores might be thinking, Washington could have a bad season because the OC has never even been a position coach let alone a playcaller. If that backfires and DQ is shown the door, I'd immediately be the internal front-runner to be HC of a team with a GM I know and trust and Jayden Daniels at QB.

If we have a *good* season, then my chances of getting a HC gig next cycle will be even higher.

I don't really agree that there's no reason for him to make a lateral move, and again - he's not currently under contract so it's different than the typical scenario.

I don’t think he can get any better then the season he and the Vikings defense had this season (even more so here with what we have on Defense) so the argument you gave of “If we have a good season then my chances for a HC gig next cycle will be even higher. Not any higher then they are now, this is his opportunity for a HC gig…if he doesn’t get a HC job now he never will imho
 
Ben Goessling (Vikings Beat Reporter) was just on The Junkies and he basically said the fact that Flores is even interviewing for DC's and not just HC jobs tells him there's a chance for any of these teams. He described the process as wanting to see what else was out there.

What I didn't recognize was yesterday was the first day he could interview for other DC jobs because it was the official expiration of his Vikings contract.
 
It’s already known that anyone in the league would like to hire him, it’s not like actual hypothetical contract numbers are needed for his popularity to act as leverage with the Vikings. He’s already rejected multiple offers from them, I can’t imagine it’s about money or they’d know what to offer (and would be dumb not to). So…that means there’s not a 0% chance he leaves for a lateral move.

This is a guy who has interviewed a lot, he doesn’t need the practice. Prepping for an interview is a lot of work, not something you do for no reason. He might not come here (I’d be shocked if he did) but if I were him, the continued insistence from KOC day after day that they feel confident he’s returning to them, despite not offering a contract he’ll accept, WHILE he’s taking whole ass other interviews, and knowing he’s a guy with a chip on his shoulder…I’d be tempted to start over elsewhere just on principle (again, not necessarily here). If being a great DC for a talented defense in MIN doesn’t get him a HC job when there’s 8 spots open right now, and they don’t have a franchise QB and aren’t SB contenders, why return there exactly? Because they feel they deserve it?

It's not just getting a HC offer, it's getting a HC offer at a team/situation he wants. Of the current openings, only three (Atlanta, Baltimore and Tennessee) are set at the QB position. And of those, Cam Ward and Michael Penix Jr. aren't exactly surefire guys for different reasons. That leaves Baltimore, and they may go in a different direction.

Flores is a unique situation bc of the lawsuit but generally speaking, highly-sought after HC candidates can be and are very choosy in where and when they take a job.
 
Atlanta is set at the quarterback position?

One guy is 37 years old and a shell of his former self and the other is going to be out into next season rehabbing from a torn ACL.
 
Set just means not actively looking for a long-term starter. But the uncertainty just furthers my point which is that Flores may not prefer the openings this cycle. It's really Baltimore and a bunch of question marks.
 
Agree there. Minnesota's defense is better than the ones at the other open spots.

It is, but that’s his doing and if it’s not earning him HC opportunities (or the lawsuit is preventing them) then what value does that have, unless he thinks he can win a SB ring there?

It’s not a destination franchise, he may not believe in JJ McCarthy, might not believe he can get a SB ring there. Even though that’s a better defense to coach (currently) than some of his lateral options, there’s definitely still some appeal to other spots
 
Still think DQ is waiting for Atlanta to hire their HC and hoping to land Ulbrich.
 
Maybe Flores' interest (besides Peters) in Washington is that fact that Harris wasn't an owner when he filed a lawsuit against the NFL. LOL
 
Would he go there? Recall that Blank went into the Draft Room and told Fontenot to draft Penix at #9.

Snyder did the same thing in 2019 with Haskins.

That kind of action by an owner is one that usually puts a chill on coaches looking at that as an opportunity.

You end up with the Ron Riveras of the world.

Galdi's podcast, has a Vikings caster that seems to think Flores going back to Minny is 50/50

Not to be too conspiratorial, but just maybe Flores sees that Quinn is on the hot seat and if Washington disappoints but he makes this defense solid to even average he will be right here to take over :devilish:

I mentioned that above and agree. Honestly if I'm DQ I'd probably say it outright to pitch him lol.

"Hey man if we don't win this year I'm gone and you could take over a team with Jayden" there's no reason for Quinn to be insecure because he's already on the hot seat. We all know it. He needs to put all his time to making sure the Blough gamble pays off and needs a veteran, proven D coordinator who can be CEO of the defense so DQ doesn't have to think about it. If he can find that, he may not care as much about what system the guy runs.

And of course there's the relationship with the front office (AP connection) and, most importantly, the $$ (Josh Harris).

I'm not saying it's likely to happen. But I don't think it's irrational, either.
