C'mon... your argument that Rivera/Del Rey fielded great defenses isn't really based on one half year stretch during Rivera's rookie year, is it? That's like saying if Heath Shuler played a good quarter of football he deserves HOF consideration.

I am pointing out that those two fielded good defenses in 2020 and 2022 and was simply pointing to one example of a stretch in a bad year for them where the defense did its job and held on to leads late in games en route to beating Brady, Wilson and Carr.

Your argument is they “never” did this and I am giving you an example where they did do this.

I am no Ron defender but the overreaction by many here toward old staffs that they were completely incompetent is just wrong.

In retrospect, as time passes, I give RR the coach more credit than I used to given RR the GM was the worst GM in franchise history and I give Jay credit that he was able to hover around 500 with cheap Danny and dumbass Bruce as his co-GMs. Neither guy was a good HC here but they were not complete abominations either as head coaches that is.

Good points method man ... I have had similar thoughts - particularly related to Gruden. Setting aside the 2012 season, he wasn't any less successful than the Shanahans were. As Gibbs II showed, not even a HOF head coach could've consistently won under Snyder.

I mean at this point why not? We’re already hiring coaches with very little coaching experience who played the game a few years ago. May as well make it a trend.

A number of younger coaches with limited experience have done very well in the NFL over the past 7-8 years.

Meanwhile, we see retread upon retread hired with little creativity and evaluation, based on a decision on past reputation and then see that 60 plus year old coach fail big time.

Washington is not trying to hire Jim Zorn to be the head coach after he was initially interviewed to be the offensive coordinator.

I don't see any real cause for panic as some here do. Weren't a lot of folks downright complacent about how much of a genius Kliff was and how he could win with anyone on offense.

And he was evidently arrogant enough not to want to listen to any input from Quinn or Peters about the offense for 2026.

What I AM SAYING is that after bringing in guys who have failed in other cities it's not necessarily the worst thing to hire a guy you as the GM or HC sees EVERY DAY in the organization, how that guy prepares to do his job, how effective he is in working with players and staff, how he handles stress and uber competitive nature of this league.

Their D was actually decent. Cardinals fans are fond of Rallis. They were middle of pack until end of year. Their issue was lack of talent. 2 good safeties, Will Johnson, Josh Sweat and 40 year old Calais Campbell
