Parting ways with Mike McCarthy after it sounding like he would get another extension. Gotta wonder if Jerry seeing what Washington is doing didn’t add to his frustration?

Dallas in turmoil is always a lovely thing!

How sweet it is. Wonder why they diverged - McCarthy really wanted out and to pursue one of the other openings, or Jerry low-balled him and was looking for an out so he could back up the brinks truck for one of the candidates on the market.

McCarthy has to be relieved. Not that I thought he is a top HC in the league, but he is decent and IMO likely better than what Jerry will be able to bring in.

Jerry has to be a little annoyed that Washington is having success... perhaps he tries to pry Kliff K away from us similarly to how we took DQ last year? My hope is that Ron "folded arms" Rivera gets another coaching job with either the Cowboys or the Bears. Or maybe Deion will become the new HC... That would be a fun watch.. Whatever happens I just really hope Dallas continues its dumpster fire ways. Glad it wont be Vrabel or Belichick.

It’s been reported that the sticking point was length of contract.

I am guessing that Jones wanted to give him a heavily incentive-based 'prove it' contract and McCarthy probably felt like he's done enough over the years that he forcing him to sign that kind of contract was disrespectful. Just my guess based on what we've been hearing.

I'm really on the fence as to whether they are an attractive spot. I mean Dallas still has that national luster so that's a plus. Their defense can be quite good once they get their corners back. Their offense is rough. They have an okay to pretty good QB, not much of a running game, and one scary wide receiver. Their cap situation is pretty awful. Their owner has become a problem and is the Webster definition of meddler.

So, I could see a vet coach looking for one last hurrah signing on for a team that's mostly built, but I think the limitations and ceiling are real for a few years at least.

I actually think he did a pretty good job holding that team together and being competitive down the stretch.

Looks like Bears are reaching out to McCarthy already. Perhaps Kliff stays a year longer.

I agree with IdahoFan : I’m thinking it will be Deion. All hype and noise, but no substance. It would be so “Jerry-like” of Jerry to do that.

I think people don’t realize who mentored Dan Snyder. It was none other than JJ, who appealed to DS’s ego and took him under his wing and showed him the ropes and how to “take it” to the rest of the owners and the league. The main problem with Dallas is the owner.

I wonder if Jerry opts to promote Zimmer? The guy does have previous head coaching experience.

I can't imagine Kingsbury being a fit there (though he might find it intriguing). Kingsbury is being lauded for grooming a QB. Dak is a finished product.

Dallas by doing this after the first round of the playoffs cannot talk to any coaches on any teams staff until after the Super Bowl. If they had interviewed before sunday they could hire someone on another staff, so now its wait until after the Super Bowl or hire someone in college or not currently working in the nfl

Does that include coaches on nonplayoff teams?

As long as Jerry keeps his hand in the team activity, I don't see them winning regardless of who the HC is.

I was never a fan of McCarthy and am a little disappointed they let him go. Just the way I felt when they let go of Garrett.

Dion and Jerry would become a giant shit show. Jerry the GM wants the Cowboys to be in the public eye. Free advertising. Eventually, an epic fail.

Deion going to Dallas as HC would be the most on-brand Jerry Jones move ever.

Could Snyder sue for trademark infringement? I mean hiring Deion would definitely be treading DS' brand.
