It's that time folks, cut down day is coming - This can be a place to be reporting the releases as the reporting comes in to get down to the initial 53. Please keep this limited to cuts and moves, and the initial reactions surrounding them.

This may be the first year where I'll be more interested in other team's cuts than our own. I just feel/hope that a few of our players are currently on other teams and not just bottom of the roster guys.

Mind you, I'm sure that'll change once someone I like gets the axe. I'm prepared to be outraged.

You don't remember desperately watching cut down day in 2024? We lucked out with Noah Brown. Who immediately, within like a few days was already with the 1st string in practice.

AP hasn’t gone and signed someone like Glasgow yet because a solid center will likely be released. I think it’s a mistake because, if it were Howie, he would go to town and sign both Glasgow and and a Van Pran or Andrews

Is it considered poor form to keep a guy on the active roster for a couple days, then cut him with the hopes of signing him to the PS? It seems like this would piss guys off, but I don't recall hearing any open complaints?

Seems like we could go stupid lite on Oline (6 guys) for our initial 53 knowing that guys like Jones and Gulbin aren't gonna get claimed... use the extra 3 spots to protect some other guys with the hopes that later cuts are less likely to be poached.

I think it happens, but usually more procedural than strategic. All the young guys with less than 4 years of service have to go through waivers and risk being claimed regardless, and teams have updated pro personnel reports on everyone in the league. So it’s doubtful you can really sneak anyone through waivers regardless of time, if they’re desirable to another team

Makes sense. The team sat McLaurin, Diggs, Williams, Burks, Brown, and Lane. So they are probably keeping those 6.

McCaffery and Jefferson both played, Bradley would be the long shot. All of them had 1 or 2 catches today. Maybe one of them makes the team.

Luke did have a really good catch for a first down, our only one of the game until the 4th quarter, but he couldn’t haul in a contested catch on another. He also made a tackle on special teams.

I think it would be a mistake to cut LMC. He’s our best kick returner (it seems everybody else we’ve tried there has fumbled), he has pedigree and upside, and he’s versatile. I’m still betting on him having a decent career, although it does look like that might be elsewhere.

If they were on the edge of a deal to trade McCaffrey…I would be very surprised they would play him yesterday. Cut? Possibly.

It does feel like they were looking to see if someone could step up to do what he can do. It almost feels like they really wanted Henry to be the special teamer. They kept giving him chances, but he has no feel for when to fair catch or which hole to take.

That was also my take, if someone had stepped up and looked competent returning kicks then Im sure LM gets cut. But I don't see where anyone else this preseason has shown they can return kickoffs. 6th and 7th receivers are not seeing the field on game day so #6 or #7 may as well be a guy that can be counted on to return kickoffs.

Given how this has gone down, cut Gulbin and AK and send them to the PS. Snipe some other teams’ young guys for some of the PS spots for the non vets. Also give a vet spot or two away to a guy who skipped camp and needs a few weeks to ramp

Agree but can we afford to lose the Greek with the Mariota injury if he gets plucked?
Unless they sign another center, if you are cutting Gulbin, are you keeping Good-Jones? I couldn't.

I don't have the time to find the numbers, but I'd bet the number of 6th / 7th round rookie QBs that get cut and picked up is absolutely miniscule.

Given our preseason game #3... I don't see much risk at all. Now he could technically choose to sign to another teams PS... but again, not sure why that makes any sense for him 🤷

I don't think they're going to want to cut 2 of 5 draft picks. But eh, you never know.

I think for now Gublin is safe because there just aren't a lot of other OL you want to keep. I think they will cut JGG and get him to the practice squad.

Coleman, Paul, Allegretti, Cosmi, Conerly, Wylie are the 6 locks. I haven't heard anything about Trent Scott, but I assume he's #7. If you want to carry 9, it's easy to keep Gublin as a backup C/G, and then one other guy. At least 1 OL is always inactive on gameday. You typically have your 5 starters, swing Tackle and Swing Guard + backup center active. That's 8 active. Which means they can keep Gublin and inactivate him.

Teams used to keep 10 OL. But 9 is not more in vogue.

Would you be cutting Humphries? I guess he was already out there so we could in order to PS him...

I can see Good-Jones placed on the PS although I'm not sure he even deserves that
