Computer Advice Please

Yes. You'll have to buy Office:Mac. That will give you Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Yup...made the switch to Mac about 3 years ago and have been very happy. I have a MacPro and a MacBook Pro.

A mac air will work perfect for you, be a little cheaper and lighter than mac book pro. i have a pro - they're nice, but they're a bit overkill for spreadsheets

My only concern would be your backup solution. I'm not sure what you were doing with windows xp. Depending on what it is you might to reconsider things with a Mac.

I would honestly consider getting one of those cloud storage accounts and just syncing it to a folder on your computer. Skydrive (It's from microsoft, has a new name now i believe...), Google Drive, Apple has iCloud, Dropbox, etc. You should be able to get tons of storage bang-for-your-buck since you're just backing up documents (instead of pictures, movies, etc.) It just depends on if you find the ease worth the price, and if you don't mind those companies having your stuff on their servers

Well I just went from XP to windows 7. It was a breeze. All my updates are done...This on an older dual core motherboard. Runs great.

1 more question please...will some good virus protection/security software buy me some time with this issue? I'm probably going to buy a mac but I might wait until the fall when I have more free time.

but you can also get Microsoft Security Essentials as well.

if I remember correctly, MS will stop supporting MSE, along with XP

windows defender i think its called now...but basically the same pig just in a different tie
