The Athletic going the way of Grantland. A shame. Always happens when longform outlets doing actual journalism are acquired.

A kid can’t even grow up wanting to be a sports writer these days (or a true journalist of any kind, to be fair). Not unless they like doing front facing short form social media videos and have a face for viral content. Sad state of things for anyone who actually likes to partake in the fundamentally human activity of…reading. We’re losing all the recipes, so to speak.

The Athletic tried banging my card for $71.99 overnight. Thank you Apple for declining the transaction. New subscription price (annual) instead of my two years agreed to price of $1 per month, without notice or explanation. With Ben it was worth $1 a month. Without Ben? Nah, dawg.

Ben and I are both leaving The Athletic.

Not sure if Nikki Jhabvala (sorry for the spelling) falls into that category, but she does a pretty good job. Outside of that im not sure who would fall into "beat writer". Guessing Finley wouldn't count.

Not quite Commanders Social Media, but the Athletic is letting Ben Standig go. Since ESPN only pays Keim to write a blurb every now and then, are there any decent beat writers for articles? (Not talking about podcasts)

There might not be that many articles, but Keim’s stuff on his podcasts I feel like are still high level journalism. He has sources. There is very little of his personal opinion in there. Theres no click bait. No hot takes just for the sake of.

Kevin and Logan Paulson are about all I need in media. Although, Louis Tee is also football smart, a forever fan, but also entertaining. He just isn’t a guy with sources.

True Story: I was walking in Dulles Town Center Mall with my girlfriend at the time, and Tre Johnson was walking in the mall (I'm not sure with who, to be honest, and the reason for that will become clear in a moment), and neither of us were looking where we were going. I was talking to my girlfriend, and I don't know what he was doing. But we walked right into each other. For him, it was probably like a fly landing on his shoulder. For me it was like walking into a solid brick wall. I went flying. Don't really remember much after that for the next few minutes.

He was so apologetic (not sure he needed to be, given neither of us were paying attention) he walked us into the Redskin store (ironically this whole exchange took place right in front of the Redskins store) and told us both to get hats, on him. The team store didn't make him pay for the hat.

I actually think this happened after he was no longer on the team. I'm not sure the exact year, but it was early 2000's. The mall was basically brand new at the time.

The relationship with the girl didn't last, but I still have the hat.
