They’ve earned a little bit of cred by me with the way they handled both Jamin and Daron so I’m just going to wait and see what the end game is with Sweat and Young.

I think a trade is highly unlikely because a) I think they love Montez and b) know they wouldn’t get a fair offer for Young.

Here's something that would make me crazy.

Dan Jeremiah, a guy who gets paid to post mock drafts has us ... with Broderick Jones, Darnell Wright, Joey Porter Jr. and Anthony Richardson still on the board ... taking 166 lb. CB Emmanuel Forbes.

I don't care how many pick-6's the man had in college. In the NFL he's a speed bump opposing OC's will brutalize with runs to his side, big WR's will push around at will, and someone the trainers and doctors will get to know very very well.

I'll throw my laptop.

I think we're too smart to make that pick. Please God.

Todd McShay has the same pick today Om, I'm as befuddled as you, think it's some garbage last minute bs, I think Saturday some "expert" had us taking Hooker. All click bait imo

I dreamt last night that the 1st pick was literally given to Eric Bienemy. And TE was the choice.

I know what you're thinking - Boone is dreaming about Eric Bienemy?

In my defense, I was hangin' with Kay Adams when I heard the news....

Perhaps now a reasonable reason to criticize our war room, not a single one of these shocking scenarios transpired last weekend.

No shock. No shock for you.

Nada.
Zip.
Niente.

One thought - perhaps the LACK of movement and purpose in the draft towards improving the team for 2023 will end up being Ron's undoing.

I think any trade of two or three #1's to draft a quarterback or do something of that magnitude was probably off the table during the sale in re major future assets.

But the team could have made moves in the draft to grab players ranked #1 at their positions, like Kincaid the TE that Buffalo snagged, and Schmitz the center the Giants took.

These guys have potential pro bowler written all over them.

These were definite positions of need.

And we could have used current roster assets like Chase Young, Curtis Samuel and try and pull off a deal for a cornerback in the draft or an NFL roster player to plug in to the secondary for 2023 and perhaps beyond.

But doing what they did I still see this team as a definite fourth place finisher in the NFC East in 2023.

The Giants who were closest to us in the division made some very good draft picks and like Washington have a younger team with players that are still developing.

One thing we didn't do was close the gap on Philly or Dallas.

Moving down from #16 and taking Kincaid at #21 or 22 could have given us the assets to acquire another second or third round pick and end up with both Schmitz in Round 2 and perhaps Martin as well if we liked him well enough.

No creativity. That's been the hallmark of an organization largely adrift the past couple of years, doing the necessary but nothing more than that.

While I agree in principle, Bulldog, and I hoped and wanted to see some moves exactly like you describe, those moves require a willing trade partner and return value sufficient to make the trade worthwhile. Mayhew said outright that there were no offers to move down from #16. I know a lot of folks have said that by turning the card in as quickly as Washington did, the team showed that Forbes was their guy and they weren't moving but I think it is telling that in a draft with a record amount of trade activity Pittsburg made the only trade up between picks 15 and 25. All the action was at the beginning or the end of the round, which indicates to me that after Pitt took Jones no one wanted a player bad enough to move up. It isn't just that the phone isn't ringing while a team is on the clock but also that the phone hasn't been ringing all night with "what if" scenarios. Mayhew and Rivera knew no one was going to call.

There were a number of trades in the 20's in Round 1 and in Round 2. I don't think some of these trades mortgaged too much for the value obtained in the ultimate selections. In fact this year saw the most draft day trades in the modern era.

Washington could have stayed at #16 and drafted Kincaid. Or they could have moved down several spots and still taken him. Buffalo had to move UP to draft him to jump ahead of Dallas.

So, by simply staying where we were we could have had Kincaid and Schmitz and then drafted a corner in Round 3.

There were a number of corners in Rounds 3 and 4 that project to being capable slot DBs in the NFL.

Finding a slot corner is tricky as some excellent cover corners coming out in the past just couldn't handle a transition inside.

That's one reason I am more likely to favor trying to find that player at the end of Day 2 or early in Day 3.

While center has not been a position where you usually see guys taken off the board in the top 15 or so picks, when you have the top 2-3 rated centers that are taken late in Round 1 or Round 2 they usually turn out to be capable NFL starters.

Washington's offensive line is filled with guys that missed time in 2022, some like Rouillier missed the entire season. Others like Charles have been injured throughout their careers and at 25/26 still haven't shown they are guys you can count on even as backups.

The fact one of our two free agent acquisitions, Gates, is yet another player that has missed time with major injuries does not make me feel better.

No argument there. I wouldn't have been upset with Kinkaid at #16 and I've been a fan of Schmitz at #47 for several months.

My comment was more about the idea of trading down. Honestly, I think that after Richardson was taken by the Colts, trading down was probably our first choice. Forbes likely would have been there at 22-26.

To your point about a slot corner, Martin might very well have still been there at #97.
