The Washington Commanders have completed training camp and the preseason. It was a rough final week for the Commanders, who struggled in Wednesday’s joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens before losing 41-3 in the final preseason game.

With the preseason behind them, all of the attention now turns to general manager Adam Peters, who must trim Washington’s roster from 90 players to 53 before then turning his attention to the practice squad. Peters has plenty of work to do. Will he look outside the organization for offensive line depth?

The Commanders will face some difficult decisions. Will they keep six or seven wide receivers? Is former third-round pick Luke McCaffrey on the roster bubble? Does Peters keep both rookie running backs? How many cornerbacks? Several starters are battling injuries ahead of Week 1. How will that impact Washington’s initial 53-man roster?

We’re tracking the Commanders’ roster cuts as they happen before Sunday’s deadline. Stay tuned to this page for updates.

Commanders waive S Qwuantrezz Knight

Washington waived safety Qwuantrezz Knight, via John Keim of ESPN.

From Ivan Lambert on Knight:

Knight had a working relationship with Washington GM Adam Peters. The 49ers signed the undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL Draft and spent all of the 2022 season on the practice squad. On their practice squad again in 2023, the Cardinals claimed him, and he appeared in six Cardinals games in 2023.The Cardinals released Knight following the season; Washington signed Knight to a futures contract in January of 2026. This might be the NFL end for Knight.

Roster cuts deadline

The NFL requires all 32 teams to trim their rosters down to 53 players by Sunday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m. ET.

Where are the Commanders in the waiver order?

The initial waiver order matches the 2026 NFL Draft order before trades, but it will change after Week 3. That means the Commanders are No. 7 in the waiver order.
